About four weeks ago my lower back started hurting very badly. After a week the pain started radiating into my left hip and upper thigh. I began to experience numbness in my thigh and upper back. I went to my doctor and after checking my reflexes and a urine test, he said I must have some inflammation going on which is compressing nerves. He prescribed an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer.
It has been five weeks now that I have been in pain. I have been taking the meds he prescribed, which are doing nothing. My pain is worsening and is now in my lower back, my hip and travels all the down to my ankle. I did not have an injury that would have caused this, and I have been taking it easy. Should I request x-rays or any other types of diagnostic tests? It seems to me if it is just inflammation, I would be feeling better instead of worse by now.

Thanks
AngelGlow,
I know EXACTLY how you feel because I have the same symptoms, except mine has been for 6 months. i have been thru every test imaginable, and no on ewill give me a definate answer. I say if you can, insist that you at least hava a lumbar spine x ray, to start. I have been the one suggesting what I have done, and am VERY involved in my treatment. I think it is silly for him to perscribe medicine when he doesnt have any clue of what it is.
Miserable
