Exercises to help prevent...

5 months ago I had a microdisectomy on my L4-L5 disc. I feel great now... 110% better. But, as I think the original reason my disc herniated was because I was out of shape (stopped working out when I got married... no time).

Are there any exercises that I can do to strengthen my lower back and abs to prevent this from happening again, while not causing it to happen by doing the exercises. Situps and pushups are going slow, but not giving the results that I'd like.

Walking, and lots of it. Get some good shoes and hold your mid section tight while walking. Stair climbing is very good for the area as well. Just don't over do any of it, as we all know what happens then. Congrats on your successful outcome. My lower back has been completly free of problems since I picked it up, although I am now stuck to an incumbent bicycle due to other unrelated problems. Good Luck, Your obviously on the right track.
