Someone posted a while ago, that she had hemilaminectomy/discectomy and she got pregnant by accident a month after her operation. Now, per her post, her surgery was a success! She didn't need to take one painkiller after her operation. I remember she mentioned that when she had some pain, which was hardly ever, she took some Tylenol and that was it.

My husband and I were talking about getting pregnant right before I got my herniated disc. That was about 3 years ago. Reason why I haven't tried to get pregnant. Unfortunately, after my surgery, I am still taking painkillers. I just don't think I could get by with just Tylenol.

My NS once said that there is no connection between pregnancy and a herniated disc. That the baby does not sit on your spine. To me that is very hard to believe, I know the baby does not sit on the spine (of course!) but carrying a baby would put stress on your back. Another NS told me the same thing, that there is not reason why you shouldn't get through the end of the pregnancy. The key here is not to take anything that would hurt the baby.

Actually, this morning, I was talking to a friend from collage whom said his wife just had a baby. He said it was so hard on his wife, specially at the end. He mentioned she had a lot of pain on her lower back and the last 2 months of her pregnancy she developed sciatic nerve pain on both of her legs... and I have got to mention that she DOES have a healthy back. My friend also told me that there was a moment that the baby kind of sat between her legs and she had to walk with her legs kind of spread open.

Now, I have never had a baby, so I haven't had any experience on it. However, I think you will be able to have the baby.... if you can avoid painkillers or anything that can hurt the baby.
