My Boyfriend, age 40, Had A Left "hip Strain" 10 Years Ago In The Army. In Recent Years The Hip Pain Has Gotten Progressively Worse. The Veterans Hospial Doesn't Seem To Be Helping Much. It Took 9 Months Just To Get An Mri Done, It Has Come Back Negative. However, In May 2003 They Did A Ct Of His Spine And Found A 2mm Bulging Disc At L5-s1. From The Research I Have Done It Appears The Bulge And The Left Hip Pain Are Connected And That He Needs An Emg. Is There Anyone Out There Who Can Help Us? He Is Beginning To Think He Is Crazy, the Doctors At The Va Are Telling Him It Is Nothing, even Though They Put Him On Aleve(which Can Cause Kidney Damage),and Recently Changed It To Tylenol. I Am Heartbroken To See Him Suffer Daily. He Works At A Strenuous Job And We Can't Afford For Him To Change Jobs Or Cut Back Hours Right Now. Any Knowledge, advice, input, etc. Is Welcomed. Thanks!
[COLOR=Indigo][FONT=Georgia]If he has health insurance, I would advise him to see an orthopedic spine specialist. Take the MRI films with you.
The bulge may be larger or may have herniated. An EMG is only done for suspected nerve damage....lose of strength in a limb, burning, shooting pain, numbness and tingling are some signs of nerve damage.
Thanks Guys, decided To Look Into An Emg, Neurologist And Maybe A Second Opinion. Told Him That Often The Films From Mri Are Misread. I Did Find It May Be Something With His Sacroiliac Joint. The Thing Is It Isn't Just Pain, but "something" Pops Out/in Sometimes. When The Pain Is Really Bad He Says It Feels Like Being Jabbed Over And Over With An Ice Pick And That The Pain Is "inside" His Hip.

Could be a nerve caught in the hip. Is his hip popping in and out? Or his back?
I have been having pain and burning in my hips. Both hips will also "pop". After I pop them the pain will go away for awhile. I also have horrible burning pain and cramping in my foot. I went to a neurologist. He did a NCS which showed dimished nerve conductivity in all the nerves in both feet. At first he thought it might be polyneuropathy but now he is thinking it is lumbar stenosis although I do not have lower back pain. I am scheduled for a CT in a few weeks.
I'm wondering if something similar could be going on with your boyfriend. Could the Army injury have caused a narrowing in his lumbar region and the hip pain he is feeling now is referred pain? I don't know why my hip pops but I know it does and that somehow that is connected.
TERRY'SGIRL29, I have Grade1 Spondololisthesis inL5-S1 among other things. I have popping in my buttocks area and mostly pain in my right leg. Sometimes my left leg hurts quite bad. If he has problems as youv'e described, I believe he should be checked by a spine specialist! I also at times suffer from bad cramping in my legs. He probably has something putting pressure on a nerve or nerves. It doesn't sound like he's recieving the proper treatments! It's been my expirience that, If you need such help, It seems you/he has to be the ones to take It on yourselves and find a decent doctor. I could tell you all kinds of stories, but I want bore you to death. I believe you get the picture. Good luck and may you let GOD lead you through this dry land!
