Post Has anyone used "Trigger Point Therapy"...

To either relieve or eliminate their back pain? I personally don't have that problem, but a very good friend of mine has suffered from back pain for the last 15 years & I would like to strongly recommend that therapy to her if I thought it would help.

I recently used it on a badly sprained right knee & was totally amazed how quickly the pain left me. I'm sure my knee is still "healing", but I was thankfully able to eliminate the pain from the equation.

Anybody???

Hi littleLulu and welcome

Trigger Point Therapy....anything like Acupressure? Acupressure is like acupuncture except you just push in (use pressure instead of needles). Trigger points run along Meridians and Channels within the body (how energy travels within the body). A very old Asian tradition.

You may also want to tell your friend to try water therapy. NOT SWIMMING. Water or Aquatic Therapy. A PT needs to be present to show your friend the "right" moves to help her with HER pain.....ya know? She needs something customized just for her. Have her start there (at least). Good luck.

Talking

I have had low back pain for thirty years from car accident. I mostly kept it in shape all these years, but last year it got bad. I did the meds, muscle relaxers, etc. Then I went to a Chiropracter and she adusted my back. WOW!

I now have a small scale portable "tens" unit that I use when I have overdone myself. As for the Accupressure, it helps my back, but so does a hot tub! This year I have learned how to use these pressure points for my allergies and doing these simple points of pressure on my face seem to break up my sinsis and help them.

When I hurt long enough and my doctor just seem to give me one medication after another, I thought it was time to see what else could help. Now I take less meds.

Good luck to your friend. There are so many different things to try for different painful areas.

No accupunture/accupressure are different than "trigger points therapy in that Meridian points are believed, but not proven, to exist, while "trigger points" are very tender & can be felt. I actually first tried accupunture/accupressure on my knee at no inconsiderable expense & got absolutely no, nada, pain relief after two extended sessions. Wasn't impressed. From what I've read, occasionally alleged meridian points & trigger points can be one & the same, but that would be coincidental.

At any rate, following the instructions in the book I was reading on this therapy, I was able to locate the "trigger point" to my knee (several inches above & into the lower thigh, & BOY was it tender, but that's how you know you've hit the right spot)), & only did a one minute deep stroking massage 4 or 5 times a day for two days (total of less than 12 minutes) & the pain was completely gone.

According to the author, this therapy can be used on ANY part of the body to relieve pain without going to a professional for help. Unfortunately or fortunately I can't personally prove him right or wrong as my "normal" pain level (save for this recent knee problem, which appears to be ancient history) is about a "1", which considering I'll be age 66 in just a few months aint too shabby.
