Question what does it mean?????

I'm just wondering what causes the other foot to go numb? I've always had numbness in my right side. Tonight my left foot is experiencing sensation loss. What does that mean???????? Lisa

Myelogram and EMG moved to new date/ June 19

Myelogram showed no impingement. EMG showed nerve damage to the anterior tibialis.
Have drop foot and numbness in thoughout right leg/moving sometimes to left leg.
Numbness in perineium area.
Constant pain treated with Soma and Loratab 10.5.
Was hospitalized for a week after myelogram with ringing ears and pain.
Visited neurosurgeon July 10 and told that I'm having post myelogram syndrome and he believes all my symptoms will pass.
No improvement thus far with nerve damage.

Lisa, not to worry. It's normal. I'm not a dr. or anything, but experience with my own herniation and recovery from microdiscectomy to fix it taught me that some times the herniation will bump into the part of the sciatic nerve that controls the other leg. That's when you feel the symptoms on the other side.

It's hard to explain, but my surgeon showed me on the MRI the timy little area affected by the herniation, and if how it changes one milimeter, due to swelling or whatever, it would also affect the other side.

This has driven me crazy, too. You're going along having symptoms on one side, and all of a sudden you think you're taking a huge turn for the worse because the other foot, or leg starts going numb. It's normal, and it doesn't mean you're getting worse. It happened to me constantly the first 2 weeks after surgery. Now it doesn't do it any more.

Hope this helps! - di

Lisa,
I am experiencing the same thing right now. I have always had pain and numbness on my right said (for about 6 months) and over the last couple of weeks I have started getting more pain and numbness on my left side. I had a doctors appt the other day and he said it was probably that the disc is inflammed more or that I have damaged it more. I have a herniated disc that is to the center and right side. He is sending my for another MRI and I am hoping to get more answers from that.

I hope your pain gets better with time and not worse. I know it is very depressing when the pain starts spreading. Good luck at you next doctors appointment and let me know what you find out!

Have a good and hopefully restful night!
Mary

Thumbs up

Just wanted to chime in and say ME TOO! I also get the unfortunate tingling/numbness in my other side. I also have hypothesized that it can also be just normal feeling which we have forgotten about because we have become so wrapped up in our injury/surgery. I know whenever my leg falls asleep i freak out and then I remember that happens to completely healthy individuals. Just my two cents. Good luck

Cool

Thanks guys so much for letting me know. I was like okay my right side has been screwed up since I fell. I was like for goodness sake leave my good side alone.
It's weird , I notice it when I walk. I'll be walking along and all of a sudden, I can't feel a new place on the bottom of my foot or a new toe. Aboslutely no sensation in that paticular spot.

One good thing, the left side comes and goes. The right side never stops.

Thanks so much, it's so nice to check back to the board and see folks take time to talk to ya ! I really appreciate it. Thanks Lisa
