Question Hi i have Scoliosis, the joints in my spine twist different directions

Hi there every one i have Scoliosis, it has bothered me as long as i can remember, when i was 22 i lifted something wrong and pinched the nerves in my lower back, went to a chiropractor and he popped it loose, and told me that i have Scoliosis but that it was too late for a back brace to help me, and that my only option was to fuse my spine straight like a rod, because my joints dont twist the same direction, some twist clockwise and others twist counter clockwise, then 6 years ago my spine and the added Chronic Fatigue Syndrome made it too painful to work any longer, so i applied for Disability and was approved within a few months, but from the stories that i have heard from many people about having surgery makes me afraid to have it done, once i have it done i will no longer be able to bend over or do many of the things that are normally done, i do go to a chiropractor when the pain gets bad, or i get another pinched nerve, but my back is consistently getting worse, i can tell by how many times in an hour i have to stretch and pop my back, now compared to used to it was how many times in a day, now it is every few minutes.
i am in pain daily, and the nerves are extremely touchy now, when people give me a hug or touch my back it causes great pain, sometimes so sharp that i have to restrain myself from hitting them for touching me, but they don't realize how bad the pain really is, in both of my arms now it feels like they are asleep, you know how the nerves tingle and hurt, and sometimes {this is getting to be very often now} when i stand up or sit down or bend over the nerves pinch or something but it causes severe shaking in my arms and legs, which last a few seconds or several minutes, depending on how long it takes me to figure out which way to move and stretch to pop it loose.

Is there any one here that can help me or give me some advice on what to do ???

i live in North East Texas about one hour from Texarkana, i have medicaid and medicare, and barely enough income to survive from month to month.. so any help i get will have to be approved by the gov.t insurance,,,

Re: Hi i have Scoliosis, the joints in my spine twist different directions

[I]The very best advise I can give is for you to make an appointment to be seen by a neurosurgeon or an orthopedic spine specialist. You are going on information given by a chiropractor....with the benefit of an MRI?
At this point, I don't think I would be having anyone pop my back, use traction or manipulate my body in any way, shape or form. Your "treatments" could actually be causing you to be worse!

I'd like to say welcome to the board....lots of good, friendly people here with good advise and vast experience. I hope that we can be of help to you.

Re: Hi i have Scoliosis, the joints in my spine twist different directions

how did you get approved so quickly? what is your degree of your scoliosis? and is it congenital or idiopathi?i can relate to your pain. i also have scoliosis, kyphosis, and lordosis. i also have sciatic nerve damage which is painful. i could go on all day. i can honestly say chropractors are to my opinion wack jobs. the back munipilation is not going to help nor heal you. you do need to see a nurologist soon to see if your nerves are not pinched. also you need an mri and maybe another set of x-rays to see if anything else isnt going on or forming in your back. as for surgery, i personally would do it but i also wouldnt for to many people with more problem after surgery than going in. i will pray for you. this might sound weird but its nice to finally find someone who also has a spine that is twisted like someone used you as a faucet. god bless. it would be nice if we could chat about our disabilities and so i also can have someone to relate to. very depressing to go it alone .
