I usually post on the Multiple Sclerosis boards but I hope you might can help.
I am in the process of being tested for MS. ( I had lesions to show up on my MRI of the brain) But, the symptoms that I have seem like they could be Sciatica.
I have, for the last month, had problems w/ my right leg foot. My toes have burned, my foot has felt "swollen", my calf has hurt, my foot has ached like a toothache and all of these symptoms have come and gone and reappeared. Sometimes, so severe I can't use my right leg.
My back doesn't hurt. I can bend forward and backward. My buttock doesn't really hurt. But, sitting can make the leg seem to act up more.
Does this sound at all like anyone else's Sciatica situation?
I wish I could help, but my sciatica always starts near where I had my surgery. The only think I can suggest is talking to a doctor about it. I also don't know much about MS and the effect it can have. Like I said, I wish I could help you, but since I can't all I can say is I hope you can find out what is going on and get it fixed.
I can only tell you where my pain is. Sometimes it does hurt in the lower back & sitting does make it much worse. I do have pain to the knee, never had it all the way to the foot, but the pain is a burning pain, also have had swelling of the knee & also it will feel quite hot, like inflamation, which it is, inflamation of the nerve going to the knee from the back.
Naomi--You are right not to try to diagnose yourself. I have heard versions of sciatica that sound like yours. But the key, of course, is to see a specialist who can make finer distinctions and, of course, have the chance to examine you directly.
