coughing, blowing nose aggravating back after surgery

The doctor said just sneezing could cause disk to re-reputure, and I've been sneezing something awful, blowing nose and now coughing wiht this this flu for two weeks. Each time I feel it in my back, not in the spine at least. I'm scared to death I'll open that huge tear in the disk. Had surgery 8 weeks ago. Have any of you had this and did you reinjure your back? My husband thinks it is keeping my back from healing but he doesn't think it's going to reopen the tear. I think it's just aggravating muscles, but still, I'm terrified each time. I have to cough because stuff is coming up. I'll be heartbroken to go through surgery just to undue the good by getting the flu.

Re: coughing, blowing nose aggravating back after surgery

Have you called your Doctor's office to let him know. Maybe you can take some cold medicine that will suppress sneezing and coughing until you get better. But check with your ortho/neuro because certain medicines are a nono for awhile after surgery.

Good luck, hope you get better soon,
Julie

Hi.
In 98 I had a microdiscectomy l4 l5. 6 mos poat op I had terrible allergy symptoms, and herniated l5 s1, so I had a microdiscectomy l5 s1. It was discouraging. The doc said this can happen with straining at bowel movements too. Hope you have no complications to your hraling. Blessings, MaryG
