I can't believe I did this- usually I credit myself with a few more brain cells than I had today! I was teaching a riding lesson to a 9 year old girl, and at the end of the lesson I let her ride bareback for a little while. I told her she could trot, and I ran beside the horse just in case. She lost her balance and slipped off the side of the horse, and as a reflex I caught her before she hit the ground. As I caught her, I twisted a little bit and a sharp pain shot through my back. Now it's killing me! (By the way, the little girl is fine!) I'm glad she's OK, but owwww!
oh man- awesome reflexes!!! I did something stupid yesterday too. I was meeting my hubby for lunch, but got there early. So, I decided to walk over to the shopping center next door, but had to go down a rocky incline to get to the street. I was trying to be so careful, but slipped anyway. I didn't fall but it was close. I felt stuff cry out in agony right away. I am hurting a lot today, but don't know if that is b/c of yesterday, or b/c I slept in the bed for the latter part of the morning (slept on couch but cats were being loud so I went to the bedroom at six am). Don't you want to kick yourself in the rump sometimes????
I'm sorry to hear that,,,BUT DO NOT USE HEAT!!!!! Heat promotes blood flow and after an injury that leads to swelling, which leads to PAIN and poor healing. Ice only for first 72 hrs. After that heat can be used for pallative care(feel good care). Good luck
Thanks for the advice! I have been icing like crazy. I also started pool therapy this week, so it was good timing. The exercise in the water helps the muscles settle down a little bit. At least this happened prior to the fusion, instead of afterwards- I really would have been kicking myself then!
