I am a 70 year old woman in good health. For the past couple of years I have been experiencing a burning pain in my lower back(tailbone area). At first it was mostly when riding in the car that I noticed it. Now I have pain that radiates into my hip when standing and hurts when I lay down as well. My visits to the chiropractor have not seemed to make it better, in fact things seem to be worse. Anyone with this problem or some good advice?
My suggestion is to make an appointment to see an orthopedic dr. or neurologist. They'll most likely suggest you have an MRI done. I think you should cease going to the chiropractor, at least until you see another Dr., as this may be causing more harm then good. Good Luck!
sounds like my condition but i'm only 31. you're lucky this is just happening to you. probably degeneration. for me, i have to sleep on my side with a body pilllow between my legs. my legs are pulled up towards my chest to relieve compression on the nerve. hope this helped.
Hello, I started feeling the same burning sensation in the lower back/tailbone area. Same thing when riding in the car sometimes I just could not stand sitting for even a minute. The pain ran from my buttocks down to my foot. Soon I started having really bad muscle spasms and I could barely walk or stand up at times. I stared physical therapy but that only made it worse. I had an x-ray taken of my spine and I found out that I had osteophytes (bone spurs) at L4-5 and L5-S1. I did some research on osteophytes and found that the cause could be because I have a calcium deficiency. I started taking calcium supplements about 1200mg every day (Super Cal Mag Plus made by Shaklee, strongly recommend!). This seemed to ease the pain and about one to two months later I was able to sit with minimal pain. Recently I had an MRI done on my Lumbar Spine. The results were not good! It turns out that I have sizable right paramedian disc extrusion at L5-S1 thatís confined beneath the posterior longitudinal ligament and a small central disc protrusion at L4-5. According to my doctor I need to have surgery so now I'm waiting to see a specialist about my condition. I think you should go to your doctor and request an MRI if you haven't already done so. I'm only 24 years old and because of my age my insurance did not want to cover the costs of an MRI but we kept pushing it until they approved it. Good Luck to you!
