few questions

Okay, anyone else not wanting to get up in the am b/c we have nothing to do???? I have been waking up at nine am, and trying to sleep as long as up to noon! I am not really tired, but I know there is nothing on tv, I have nothing to do. I would get up and sit, but I have things to do today like get my first follow up xray and go to Wal Mart. So, on days I will be out I stay in bed longer since I will be up for some time. I also get to bed around ten or eleven, and now I am not tired b/c I haven't even been up for hardly eleven or twelve hours! I did get up around eleven bc the phone rang, and my dog was annoying the living Heck out of me. I don't know. Then hubby is like: you need to get up earlier. I say WHY? I have NOTHING to DO and it isn't like I have to get used to a sleep schedule for work since I still have no idea when I will go back! WHich, leads me to my next question:
What is the average time we stay off work after a lumbar fusion? I of course cannot go back to my job, since that was a CNA one. SO, I have no idea how long I will be out. Part of me wants to do PT for a couple of months first, especialy b/c I want to return to some kind of work w/o my narcotics. Then, there is my neck issue too. I am so confused! I doubt anyone can actually help me with this issue, but, thought I would try.
Oh, I bought a pink velour outfit: what kind of top looks best? It is not a light pink, more darker. So, I need to know what COLOR to wear. I don't want to look like someone threw up pepto bismol on me (I know, off topic, but I have to ask someone!)

Re: few questions

hi mel,
i can only answer your back to work question. in my case after fusion i went back to work at about 3 months. but no matter what you do for work or how long you take to go back you must take it easy. i've been working almost 2 months but the last two weeks were my first two that i worked five days and i have yet to work more then 6 or 7 hours a day. i'm lucky to be able to come and go as i please since i'm the boss. i never push it , if my back or leg start to bother me i go home and rest.

i hope you work out your pink outfit problem. how did your x-ray go? was it your first since surgery? really a wierd thing to see for the first time huh

take care,

Bob C.

Re: few questions

Hey Mel,
I know exactly what you mean. I find myself staying in bed until 12 or 1. It's ridiculous. I mean, I get up with my boyfriend in the morning and make breakfast before he goes to work and I usually stay up for an hour or 2 but then I have nothing to do so I crawl back into bed. Then when I finally get up I feel kinda rotten. I don't know, it's a viscious circle I suppose.
About your pink valour outfit, I have one too. I usually wear a white tank top underneath it. I love those outfits, they are soooooo comfy!! I gotta run for now. Take care, we'll chat later. Kristy.

Re: few questions

well, I more than likely will have to be ready to work eight hour shifts, so I think it will be a while for me. I get tired just being out for four hours. Of course, I am just not hitting one month. I ended up getting two tanks for my outfit, can't wait.
Stid-I know what you mean! I hope you are able to get to sleep soon! I take a benadryl or I take nyquil. Both work to get me to sleep.
Well, thanks for the replies.

Re: few questions

Howdy! Computer issues w/ the laptop have kept me away (have to sit at the desktop now! UGH!!). I'm going to try to go back 3-4 hrs / day to work next week (it will have been 6 weeks)- maybe, we'll see how that goes.

I wear black or white tanks with my pink velour suit I also found a great button up long jean dress that I've been wearing out that works great, as it fits over the brace and makes me feel almost human

Took the girls to the mall today to spend their christmas money finally, was there about 3 1/2 hours (w/ the walker) but felt ready to drop by the time I got home.

My schedule has been up at 9ish, in "chair" until noon (reading, tv, etc...) then walking or short trips, nap from around 2-4, chair until 6, dinner and family and tv and misc home stuff (trying to clean a bit, etc...) until 1-2 a.m. (CANNOT SLEEP!!!!!!). I totally understand about bored, Watched every new movie out on dvd, every book i've ever wanted to read... UGHHH!! Hoping to get on a normal schedule soon. Tried cutting the nap out, but then STILL can't sleep and am a crying mess. Am a crying mess lately anyways, but w/out at least a short nap, i'm due to be admited to a looney bin (yep, already take anti-depressants...)

Saw my x-ray films last week after the set-back, the screws and rods aren't nearly as scary as the white "mist" that tooks the place of what used to be my bones

I'll do a better job of checking in, I've missed you guys! Gotta get the laptop working! Take care everyone, time to go sit back down in the comfy chair, this kitchen chair is awful!!

Re: few questions

you are on quite the schedule there! Me, well. I wake up, pee, go back to bed. I stay trying to sleep until; 1. The dog wakes me up 2. the phone rings 3. gotta pee again or number two or my tummy is hungry. This is around ten thirty til noon. I get on the laptop in bed and stay there until I get in the shower to run whatever errand I can do. I tend to stay in bed until I HAVE to get up and if I don't go anywhere, my showers happen about one hour before hubby gets home. I have been up and around these days in the afternoon, so I don't feel as bad being in bed. We are starting to spend the first half of our evenings in the living room instead of bed. BUT, eventually, usually after a couple of hours, I need the bed. I run out of steam and get so very uncomfortable. Now, I am up later at night, kinda sucks too. Oh well. We move next week, on Friday, so that will be neat. BUT, I have to kennel the pets and the cats weigh fifteen and seventeen pounds, and I am not supposed to lift more than FIVE. How am I going to get them INTO the car from the apt if I can't lift them? Into the vet will be easy, one of the girls can help (I used to work there too). Hubby can't and won't go after work b/c of the distance and bc he gets off at five and doesn't want to go there at that time. He can be a Pen** head sometimes. UGH. Scuse me for that.
Well, will figure out something....

Re: few questions

It's tough sometimes...I'm pretty much stuck here in the house unless someone comes to drive me somewhere since I can't drive yet. So I really don't have much to do. But I try to get up around the same time I would as if I had somewhere to be, so I can keep things as normal as possible. Hopefully I will be able to start teaching just a little bit soon, so it will be a little less monotonous for me! I see my doctor today for my first follow-up, so hopefully he'll have good things to say!

Re: few questions

Don't get me wrong - not like my "schedule" is in stone or any fun... just kinda been how its been...

As for the cats, got any neighbors? As a proud owner of a FAT 15 lb ragdoll cat (who insists on sleeping on my lap) I know that picking her up would be a BIG no-no, let alone 2 of them

Are you moving far? Out of Vegas? Don't lift!! (Including cats!!) We'll be in Vegas (hopefully) in Feb-March...having "withdrawls", as last time was July...

Take care--off to "visit" work today, see if I still have a job, whoopie!!

Re: few questions

I am going to visit work wed too
We don't know our neighbors, but I am going to see if someone will help anyway. Otherwise, I will get up with hubby. The vet opens at six am, so he can put them in the car for me then we can go. Not that I really want to get up that early, but what can you do?
WE really wanted a ragdoll, but he was too expensive. We couldn't afford fivehundred bucks when we were looking at cats. oh well, I still want one someday. Does she really flop when you pick her up????
WE will be staying in vegas, but are moving to the northwest side, we are in henderson right now. It isn't real far, but far enough. Make sure you have good walkin' shoes, some of the casinos like caesars have hard to walk on floors in the mall part.

Re: few questions

My ragdoll flops when she feels like it, but does sleep on her back she is soft as a rabbit and very sweet. She was my Christmas gift 3 years ago ($450.00!!).

I've been to Henderson - my oldest had a chior concert that we joined with another school from Henderson and played at a festival there.

I am living in flats now, hoping i'll be ready to go to Vegas in Feb for Valentines Day, if not we'll go in March for our anniverssary Won't be any fun if walking more than 1/2 hour is painful so we will see.

I have tix for Lion King musical (bought them for whole family for Christmas) in late Feb and am hoping I can sit comfortably by then....

Put off going to visit work until tomorrow, yesterday's shopping extravaganza was a bit much, so i'm taking it easy today

Hope everyone is having a good day today!

Re: few questions

Yep - I'm fused =)

Technically I had a TLIF, which stands for something I can't remember right now which including a 360 fusion (thru the back only) w/ hardware (screws, rods, cage, Bone Material from illeac crest, sponge, etc...), and they "opened up" the spaces in there L2-L3 as well as L4-L5 bcause the nerves were all smashed,-- I think that was the "L" laminectomy - and of course they removed the disc L4-L5, and cut away the "protruding" herniated part of L2-L3, but they did not remove the disk.

Most of the time I'm feeling better now, and plan to go back to work Part Time to a desk job (I do HR) next Monday which will be 6 weeks. I was in the hospital 5 days, and still have a soft corsett brace I wear all time (but in shower) and a bone stimular (mine is very small). I'm down to 20 mg oxycontin am and 10 mg oxycontin pm and a combination of Tylonol 3, Percocet and xtra strength tylonal durring the day.

I wish you the very best of luck, are you also having a fusion??
