I am aged 55 and have had lower back pain since childhood. Before I was even in school I couldn't go to sleep until my mother rubbed my back. At that time it would hurt when I laid down and relaxed. I think it may have been spasms causing the pain. The situation has just gotten worse over the years with wear and tear and strain. I am a gardener and worked in a book store lifting heavy loads for years. I got so bad that I had to retire about 15 years ago. I had put on almost 100 pounds and that really took its toll on my back. I had a whiplash injury about 25 years ago and sought help from an osteopath. He cracked my back and I immediately felt severe pain in the center of my spine. I have had a lot of pain from that ever since. I also have tendenitis in my arm joints, arthritis in my hips and knees and bursitis in my left hip. I have run the gamit from doctor to doctor. I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and then everything is attributed to that. CAT scan of lower spine showed slight stenosis at L-5 and some degeneration of the discs. An MRI of thoracic spine showed nothing significant. These were taken many years ago. When I talk to doctors and tell them all my symptoms I see their eyes glaze over. They actually ask me what part hurts the worst as if that is the only thing they will address. Then they just say that I should go to a pain clinic. They don't seem to realize that all the body parts are connected and impact each other. I also have hyperpronation in my feet and wear orthodics which helps my knee pain. In fact, all my joints are very flexible. I've heard that hyperflexion has been recognized as a medical problem. I also seem to heal very slowly or not at all after injuring joints. Do you think I was just born with a bad body? Anyone have any suggestions for where I should go from here? Thanks for any help you can give.
