nervous...just got back mri reports for cervical and thoracic...HELP me understand!

Ok, I am scheduled for surgery on my L5-s1 on feb 17th, I knew I have problems with c-6 and t-8,but I just got my report from my MRI which was taken yesterday morning back, and here is what it said... help me understand this please...
" Cervical Spine:
There is mild motion artifact. No marrow edema. C3-C4 shows minimal disk bulge. C4-C5 shows mild disk bulge. At C5-C6, there is a right paracventral disk protrusion which abuts the cord. There is a mild right paracentral cord flattening suggested. C6-C7 shows a broad right paracentral disk protrusion causing mild thecal sac effacement. C7-T1 shows a broad disk protrusion causing mild thecal sac effacement. Impression: Subtle cord flattening toward the right at C5-C6. no level shows significant neuorfoamen narrowing.

Thoracic SPine:
A Probable hemangioma involves T4. No definate marrow edema. A t T3-T4, a left paracentral protrusion abuts the cord. T4-T5 shows a left paraventral disk protrusion causing mild cord flattening. T5-T6 shows a central disk protrusion causing mild diffuse cord flattening, left greater than right. T6-T7 and T7-T8 are intact. T8-T9 shows a right paracentral disk protrusion to abut the cord. Lower levels are intact. Impression: THere are several disk protrusions descrihbed above, many of which have associated neural effacement. The will need to be correlated clinically."

Ok, I have been bawling all morning. I realize that this probably doesn't mean anything, but it looks terrible, and I am only 31yrs old. I hurt all the time, I have trouble holding my 15month old, and I'm tired of feeling like crap. Ok, so they don't do surgery on any of these, and just on the spondalo, and L5-S1, what then, am I still gonna hurt all the time? Am I gonna feel like crap forever? Is this just gonna conitue to get worse?? I feel so depressed right now.
Help.

Your specialist should explain these to you. I think you do have problems in the mid back that are going to need treatment. Give your doctor a call and ask for him to explain to you all that is going on and don't let him just slip it by you and blow you off.

Good luck.

Re: nervous...just got back mri reports for cervical and thoracic...HELP me understand!

Hi there
Remember me the other 30 something with lumbar /cervical crap! O.K. On the thoracic level they do not do surgery there because of the complexity of the nerves..it is only indicated if you have severe neuro problems or better yet bowel and bladder probs. Your neck sounds like mine too and remember I had the lumbar fusion as well in June. The neck issue looks like it def. needs to be addressed but as I am learning One monster at a time. I KNOW know know how desperate this feels , I feel it everyday . What symptoms are you having from your neck?? Did you have an injury ? Or did you just draw the short straw like me? I agree that, that report must have floored you ,it is alot to take in esp. when it is YOUR body. You need to take a deep breath and go over it step by step with your doctor. I know they do not want to do that either they want to concentrate on one thing so maybe just talk about the report so you understand EVERYTHING and ask questions , and then start your treatment. Please know we are here for you. I am going through some of the same things and I know it is hard to be patient esp. when your the patient but you will not be able to do it all at once. One day at a time. and maybe a few extra hundred hugs from your babies (that always helps me)
Keep posting. I find it helps , some of my threads are when I felt the worst and my "friends" here always come to my rescue and we will for you too!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are in my prayers
shelley

Thanks, I needed to hear that. I was hysterical yesterday, couldn't get it together. I just kept thinking, I'm not prepared for this. I knew there were 2 disks bad, not 7. Anyway, it just way overwhelemed me and I didn't know how to cope. I have a dr appt on Mon, he said he would go over each one of these with me. I guess my thing is this....I don't want any other surgery unless I absolutely NEED it...the one on the 17th is scary enough....BUT I don't want to just be like Oh, well its not that big of a deal...cuz I live with this pain everyday, and it hurts every day, and I am tired of hurting! and complaining, and crying, ya know? I just want to feel normal.

my thoughts are with you, i have 9 discs in the cervical and thoraic that read very similiar to yours. after being to 3 ny specialists am also told thoracic is not done just because of pain. It sounds kind of kooky as you would think surgery is a way to go for that.

Re: nervous...just got back mri reports for cervical and thoracic...HELP me understand!

Hello,
I feel for you, because I.m going through similar conditions. I got my MRI report back. I know my problem but its new things in thi sreport I don't understand. May be somebody can tell me what these means.I'll just list the findings. I 'll put in () what I don't understand. (Left Paracentral Focal Protrusion at C2-C3 with resultant Effacement andf Indentation of the Thecal Sac. Just reading this much made me curious of what it mans. I have been searching the web to find out what this means. I only listed this one but I much more. If I find a website that could possibly help you understand I'll erite you back.
You are in my prayers.
Edith
