in sept. i went on vacation and got sick. went to the hospital , they thought it was something it was not and did a spinal tap. When they did they put a bacteria in my spine that was eatting my disc away. I did not know that for about a month and a half. I was having trouble laying down, sitting, standsing, and waiking, In nov i went back to the doc and they found the bacteria and but me in the hospital right away. they did 3 surgerys on my right side to take care of the problem. The day after thanksgiving i went home after bing in the ospital since nov 11th. I do not kow if it was the drugs or what but i was felling better. then Dec came and it started all over again the trouble walking, sitting, standing, and laying. My doc says they did nothing on the left side so i should not hurt there,BUT I DO. It starts in my lower back and goes to my hip and straight down my left leg. If i move the wrong way it feels like someone has my nerves and are trying to snap themin half. I amonly 31 and do not know what i am do to . My docs are not listening to me. They just keep giving me pain meds and telling me to go home. I WANT TO GET BETTER. anyone know what might this be or someone i can talk to who might thanks Kris
I had the same pain from a herniated disc in my back. There was no comfortable position, the only way I could sleep was to wrap my whole thigh in a huge heating pad, dope up with meds & finally fall asleep. I did McKenzie method PT for it 5 years ago & have had no problems with it since.
Wow I'm so sorry to hear what you have gone through.
I don't know what the surgeries have done to your back...but as far as the pain symptoms, it sounds like something is rubbing against the nerves in your spine. I had the same symptoms (hip, lower back, shooting down leg) and my MRI revealed a bulging disk in my lower spine.
It's sad how much we hear about doctors sending patients away with a prescription. Next time you see him/her, say you'd like to get an MRI or go though physical therapy, and the drugs aren't working that well. In my case, I went through 3 years of PT until I got better. But the most accurate diagnosis of your situation is an MRI. Unfortunately it is expensive so doctors think this is a last resort.
The best thing for you to do is to see a spine specialist and get an MRI. I don't think your doctors are doing what they should and you deserve better. An MRI will tell the state of your back, possibly why you are having so much problem with sciatica.
Good luck and please, let us know what you find out.
