Hi.... I was recently switched to Methadone from Hydrocodone.... My Pain Management Doc switiched me because Hydrocodone has Acetominophine in it and when taken for long periods of time it can cause damage to the liver.... they told me that Methadone is basically a narcotic drug like vicodine/hydrocodone....They say it is as strong if not stronger then Hydrocodone...... it is actually a symthetic of morophine.....it does not have the acetominophine in it.... I have taken it for about a month now, it causes me severe sedation, they have me taking it twice a day once in morning and once at night, I take the night does with (2) Zanaflex at night....To be quite honest, It knocks me out, but I do not think it really does that much for my pain... that I can tell... They have started me on a drug called Provigil that is for people with sleeping disorders and it is supposed to basically curb the sedation effect of the drug....they say that way I can get a better effect from the Methadone, and get a better idea of if it is working....which personally I dont think it does, but I will see after I start the Provigil..... Hopefully you will get a better effect with it.... Best of luck to you... Take Care.
