EMG - 2nd time around

Quick update:
My physical therapist advised me I should go back to see the pain management Dr. becuase she (and I) feel that pt is not helping me. I went to see him again today & told him that not only is pt not helping, but the Ultracet that he prescribed doesn't touch my pain. He took a look again at my reflexes, and again noted that my right leg is noticably slower then my left. He now wants me to go for another EMG, and advised that he also wants me to give accupuncture a shot. I think I am going to post another thread about accupuncture...
Anyhow, it's all set up for next week....
We shall see..... I am starting to feel that the fusion is inevitable.

emg shows pinched nerve

Today was my 2nd emg. dr. stated that it only showed a slight pinched nerve at l5-s1. he said he didn't think it needed surgery, he again mentioned accupuncture, and advised me to discontinue pt as of the end of this week. Any suggestions?
~M~

ps: i'll be doing research on this, but how can I have a pinched nerve after surgery? wouldn't it have been there prior and fixed?

Re: EMG - 2nd time around

I'm sorry about what you're going through! It's tough to handle, but you can do it. Forgive me- I don't remember exactly what's going on with your back. Did you reinjure it after your surgery? Have you had an MRI since your surgery to see what's going on, if the disc herniated again? That could be causing the pinched nerve. There could also be scar tissue and/or inflammation putting pressure on the nerve. Have you sought a second opinion? Give acupuncture a shot- it can't hurt you and may help relieve some of your pain. Fusion is a last resort- you should try everything you can before doing it! Good luck- keep me posted!

Re: EMG - 2nd time around

Hi Jessie!
Thanks for your concern!
My surgery was July of 04. I had another MRI done after my surgery becuase I was still having pain. The radiologist stated that there was a small herniation, but my sergeon disagreed.
