I'm a newbie to this site and need help. I dont even know if this is right section to be posting in, but here goes. After sitting in a desk chair or any other type hard chair (kitchen table, folding etc.) I am getting severe pain in my butt area right at the tailbone. I have no idea what this is caused from or why I even get the pain. Anybody that can enlighten me will be appreciated. I cant sit on a bicycle seat or any type that is hard bottomed and I getting scared. Please help.

Could be that your tailbone is out of whack. Is is simple for a DO or even an MD to figure out for you. They have you lay down on your stomach and then do the cobra for them. *raising up on your elbows from your waist*. Then they turn you over and feel your tail bone. If it is out of place, they can manuver it back into place for you. If it becomes a problem, then PT and the proper sitting cushion may be called for.

When you sit down at the tip of the tailbone is very painful so painful its hard to sit down. There is an infection that you get in there for some reason no one knows-usually antibiotics get rid of it and you will need to spen a couple of weeks off the tailbone. good luck

I learned that also yesterday. My sister had to have that done. When you have pain like that in the tail bone, if it's out of place, they can put it back into place. At least that's why my sister did. I don't know of any other causes of pain for that area other than it being out of place. Good luck in feeling bettre!

My particular problem with my tailbone is that I have extra vertebrae at the end of my spine. I have trouble sitting for extended periods (not the only reason). We found this out by getting an X-Ray done. I was on Motrin for that problem. It also would work its way up my spine when I'd bend down.
