Hi. New to the board, first time poster. I've been diagnosed with DDD at L5-S1. Fusion reccomended by 4 surgeons. I've opted to get ADR (the Charite' disc). Looks like I'm gong in on 2/18/05. Does anyone have any experience to share? Do's/don'ts? Thanks.
I'll post my results as I go through this experience.
I've had three ADRs and very happy with the results.
I have one piece of advice. Ask your Dr, for 12 weeks of Neurontin. It's a medication commonly used for nerve pain. Make sure you start with a low dosage like 100mg./ three times a day, and work up to maybe 300 mg/day. Then work your way back down at the end of twelve weeks. Hopefully it will work for you too.
When you have an ADR, or ADRs the disc height is restored. The nerves have been stretched, and are very active. You will feel a burning sensation in your legs. It will pass, but mean while Neurotin may help you find comfort.
Thanks for the feedback. Problem. My insurance company will not cover. Any advice on how to do battle. I live in New York.
I'm in the appeals process. Word to my fellow New Yorkers. Preferred Care (my Ins. Co.) has the second highest rate of appeals overturned by NYS insurance Companies (something like 63 percent). This leads me to beleive they deny alot of claims.
I'll keep you all posted and hopefully will have some useful info to post.
