Backpain and fever

Since Sunday morning I've been having back pain (it's not severe), it hurts just below my ribs. Sunday night I got a low-grade fever. My temperature hasn't gone down from 99 degrees ever since, and every few hours my temp goes back up to around 100.5. I also have a very bad cough. I went to my doctor yesterday, he didn't tell me what it was, he just told me to take some advil for the back pain and prescribed me some zithromax. He told me that if I"m not better by Friday to call him. This morning when I awoke my back pain is still there and now i'm experiencing a lil bit of pain in my lower back on the right side around my waist area. What could I possibly have? Should I wait till Friday to call my doctor or should I call him now and tell him that I'm having back pain in my lower back? I'm getting a little bit worried because I'm afraid it might be a kidney infection, which my mom had a couple of years ago and she had to go through a lot at the hospital and had her kidney removed. Anyway thanks for any help.

Re: Backpain and fever

Hi, did the doctor do any blood work, or x-rays? if not, I would call back and insist on them.

I agree with valley. If your doctor didn't draw blood and do a UA, call him back right now.

Re: Backpain and fever

Hi there,
It's really hard for one to guess what it could be but I thought I would share what my boyfriend just went through. Well, basically what you are describing. He had a terrible cough, a fever, incredibly sore legs and a sore back. His whole body hurt like heck. Turns out it was just a really bad flu. He was given antibiotics and each day it got better. Initially, it did take a couple of days for him to start feeling better. But if you are that concerned I would call your doctor back. Take care and god luck. Kristy.

Re: Backpain and fever

Call that doctor,
usually a kidney infection gets worse each day, not like a urinary tract infection like you can have for awhile. But something is causing those symptoms and I agree with the others Blood work and a UA. Take care

I had actually been thinking about that too, now that you mention it I have had sore legs for a couple days now too. I'm going to get the blood work done just in case.

Re: Backpain and fever

It's a good idea to get blood work done and asking for an x-ray is not a bad idea either. Let me know how things work out. Take care. Kristy.
