back pain is about to ruin my life!

okay im ex army and was booted last December cos i injured back up, now i got back pain for 20-30 years (so they recon). Im only getting paid (compo) until the end of March and then i will not have any source of income. The Army has also paid for me to do a Diploma in Marketing this year. My courses started this week, but the sitting for long periods of time, carrying around heavy books has aggrivated my injury hugely. And by the end of the day im in a hell of a lot of pain. Im expected to get a part time job soon so i will have some kind of income but truthfully speaking i dont see any way how i am physically going to be able to get through my studies and then be able work afterwards. Im already taking pain killers everyday which i know is really unhealthy and this job will just mean i will need to take more. THIS ******ING BLOWS!!!

Re: back pain is about to ruin my life!

Thank you for your service in the Army.

Sorry for the crap your being dealt. What type of injury did you receive? I totally understand the sitting all day - it's the worst thing ANY of us can do. Perhaps you can find (or borrow from a friend) a pull around thingee for your books - Please don't get discouraged, it will accomplish nothing and worsen your pain. The stupid haze we live in with the pain killers gets old ~ I have been attempting to function (in a sitting job) on them for the last 6 years. The only way we can accomplish this is...."One Day at a Time"

Hopes for a pain free day ~
and a brighter future

Re: back pain is about to ruin my life!

Hi, and welcome to the board. I'm so sorry you have to be here, but would like to take a minute to thank you for your service to our country.

As suggested, try to find a little 2 wheeled carrier for your books--that will help some. Use ice on the area of your back that is injured, and you can alternate it with heat. Avoid lifting, twisting and bending.

Could you tell us what kind of injury you have and where it is? Have you seen a spine specialist yet? You need to have an MRI to pinpoint the problem so that you can get the proper treatment. You should make an appt with an orthopedic or neurosurgeon and go from there.

Good luck....please stick around and keep us updated.

Carol
