Post Op - Microdiscectomy

Hi - after years of varying pain I finally was diagnosed with several herniated discs - I have just had the worst one operated on Feb 1st - T12/L1 - my pain is gone and I am walking a bit everyday - I would just welcome any advice or shared experiences from a similar op - how long before you felt no discomfort? My back feels tight at the moment but not painful so that's good - how long will this last?
I'm hoping to return to work next week part-time - i work in an office so sit a lot which is both good and bad- any advice - I have doctors orders not to do any housework, particular twisting movements, for at least 4weeks - so of course I will be following that instruction!!! And no lifting anything more than 5lbs for at least a month.
I'd love to hear any other experiences of a similar op.
Thanks

Re: Post Op - Microdiscectomy

Get meds for muscle spasms from your doctor if you need them.

Consider working half days for the first week or so. Make sure you get up every hour and take 5 minutes to walk around.

Ask your doctor about physical therapy to strengthen your back.

Re: Post Op - Microdiscectomy

You didn't say when you had the surgery....or what kind it was. The best advise I can give is to tell you to take it slowly, follow your doctors orders. No vacuuming or sweeping, no mopping floors, etc. Right now you are most vulnerable for further disc problems, even at the same level. The other discs are going to be helping carry the load for the one that was repaired and therefore you need to treat your back very gingerly. Walking is good, starting slow, not going to far and then gradually adding time to it. After a while, you can pick up the pace a bit.
Just try to use good sense and be careful.

Good luck.
