I had an operation on my lower back months ago to remove disc's and nerves were severly swollenthis was done by the top neuro-surgeon in ireland and he told me it was one of the worst cases he had seen.
I suffered from severe spasms after suregery etc and experienced the neck pain and chest pain after this an so got ECG done as i was in hospital for over 2 weeks. Heart seemed fine. But as the weeks went on the pain spread to my arms and hands and leaves them very weak etc. I also have back pain again and once again back in the legs etc.
I am scheduled to have a MRI next week so hopefully find out waths wrong in a few weeks but i am very concered as i sing opera and cannot do this due to the pain at the moment and just want to be kinda prepared for what the neck pain could be! I have suffered with the back pain for a long time and has taken over my life...and now it is in my neck and arms and i am concerned about maybe having another op!
Do you have numbness associated with the pain in your arms? I have had both lumbar and cervical surgery, and both times, I had numbness. I think the MRI that you have scheduled will probably tell you and your Dr alot. There are other alternatives to surgery if you catch them eariler enough. I always just waited to long. Its good that you going in soon.
Yes i do my hands go numb, i sometimes cannot move my arms at the shoulder so i hope i have caught it in time the fist time i spoke to my doctor about the neck pain they put it down to inflamation so over 3 months on i hope it has not gone too far!
Wow i am sorry to hear about your problems. I too am having cervical issues and have had lumbar surgeries already. You will most def. find out something after your MRI. I know how scary it is to have to think you are dealing with this when you are already dealing with lower back problems as well. i am having a discgram monday for my neck to finally really address how to treat me neck issue, we have been dealing with the lower lumbar area all this past time. Good luck to you I will be thinking of you.
hi i have suffered for headaches for years and rercently started having numbness and tinkling in my hand....come to find ou just a few weeks ago that i have a pinched nerve in my neck....................just a thought.........
Its been my experience that anytime there is numbness and tingiling in the arms and hands, its usually related to a disc. That said, I have heard of epidurals working wonders for people by reducing the lnflammation around the nerves. Sometimes if you wait too long, there is too much damage and surgery is the only route. Keep us posted on your MRI results, hope everything works out good for you.
Thank you all very much for your kind words and advice, i had a very bad day today i could not walk for a while and terrible pressure pain in my neck and arms so just glad now that i am having my mri tomorrow, just want to know whats wrong so i can start treatment!!! Its costing me a fortune as my insurance doesnt pay for some of the procedures so i really want to get it sorted and get back to normal. I will let you know what shows on the mri and also getting blood test as i am very nausous with the pain so should get results in a week.
Once again thanks,
Well i finally got a letter from my consultant in regards to my MRI and i am really not happy about this as he just wrote " There is no evidence of any disc's out and my condition should improve within the next few weeks and if not return to see me in 6 weeks time".... This is not very informative, as i am in worse pain than i ever was and i have no explanation for it. I had to leave work yesterday due to severe pain in my arms and neck and lower back and could not put pressure on my left leg.... I am so depressed over this i am glad that there are no disc's out but i am not happy that i am left to just cope with the pain without any help or meds. I dont know what to do now, at the moment i would be better off curling up and never leaving the house...
I have a disectomy done on L5 disc on the 14th december and i have been in so much pain since then and its now nearly 4 months on and i seem to be getting worse!
I went to a neurosurgeon, seemingly i have severe swelling of the nerves and as of yet they have not gone down at all. I seem to be getting worse rather than better? How long should it take for this to go down and should i be expering severe shoulder and arm and lower back and both leg pain!!!! This cannot be normal 4 months after an op. I was in less pain before op than now! This is so depressing and worrying as i do not want to have to just live with this pain....
