pt usually isn't helpful for tears.
has your ortho mentioned idet? it's controversial and not covered by insurance, but i did it last summer. haven't felt the tear since, and got to keep my disc (at least for now - everything's a wait-and-see with your back).
whatever you do, just make sure you trust your dr and that you make the choices that are best for you, not anyone else.
