I found out Miles is accepting BCBS so I decided to see him. He didn't think I had any structural problems with my neck (Loss of curve and spondylosis), except for a disc issue. He sent me for a new MRI and of course showed what I already knew. That I had a small herniation there at C5-6. I didn't get a chance to press him to ask if the small insignificant bulge could cause all the pain I have in my neck and shoulders/upper back, so I have to write those down and drop them off. I had an epideral injection today in the neck, so we'll see how that goes. He did think that I have an impingement in my left shoulder so off to Dr. Thornburg I go for a sports med consult. I just need to get this pain under control. I had a LOT of pain just looking down to fill out the info paperwork, in less than five MINS. My new job will require me to look down A LOT. So, gotta control it.
If he doesn't give me the answers I need, I will seek out someone who will atleast TRY to explain (I do understand they aren't all knowing, so he may not have an answer but I want acknowledgement of the symptoms).
He seems pretty nice overall, so we'll see what happens. I am planning on going back to work the first of April, so we only have a few more weeks!
I'd be happy to hear back from you if you get the chance!
Hi Mel,
I'm sorry I haven't been on for the last few days. Dr. Miles is who I saw for my first neck injury in 02. I had a hard time with him. Sure he is nice but he really frustrated me.
I saw Abernathie again last week and he sent me for another mri and I went back to see him last Tuesday. He said that my fractures look like they are healing but he wants me to stay in the brace for the next 6 weeks. The dr that I saw before him (Gaines) had persribed vicidin and I asked for a refill and he didn't relize that I had been taking it. He doesn't like perscribing them. He has started me on a tens unit. I really don't think it is going to cut this pain but I'll give it a chance. I think that Abernathie is doing a pretty good job explaining things for me. He cautions me to take things slow and not to push it. It seemed like Miles wanted to get me back to work asap and didn't hear what I was saying. He sent me for an injection and thought that would fix things. Of coarse it didn't. It did give me some relief for a little while.
You may want to give Abernathie a try.
Hope you have a good weekend,
Tirzah
thanks-I had a new MRI of the neck and then an injection last week. But Dr. MIles didn't say anything about a follow up or nothin'. I am now concerned b/c I am to start work in two weeks and right now, there is no way I can sit for hours taking off drs orders. I wrote some questions down for him, including the follow up question, if he'd send me for some ultrasound and massage therapy and so on. I also asked about the cervical spondylosis I was previously diagnosed with-he didn't acknowledge it. I will also get in touch with a pain clinic and see what they may be able to offer me. I dont' want surgery, so I guess seeing a specialist at this point is silly. A PM clinic can help me with the pain part that I am trying so desperately to control. Thanks for your input. If this doesn't work, I will seek a second opinion from a neuro. (Dr. Oro)
