Hi and sorry you are experiencing trouble with the back. For me, it didn't matter which level in the Lumbar buldged or herniated, I had pain in the low back just below the waist and as things worsened, across the butt to the hip, then down the leg. With some it went to the knee and stopped and with others it went all the way to the foot. Just depends on how badly the nerve was compressed and exactly where along the nerve root. Hope your pain is not extremely severe.
What tests have you had and how bad are your symptoms? What surgery has been discussed and is your doctor a general neuro/general ortho or a spine specialist?
Quitecook, Rob, thanks for the reply. I am 4 weeks post from a Lamenectomy of the L4-L-5 I was having left side weakness, tingling, cold feet, pain in my butt, down my leg, stopped at my knee then pain in my big toe ,next toe and pain on top of my foot, the surgery helped the pain in the butt, still having pins and needles in foot, toes still sore and can't bend my foot down... but the pain in the butt was causing me to not be able to walk at all , so that surgery helped that part...may take a while to get all of my other sensations to return to normal, As for the new additional pain it is in the left side top and outer side of my thigh, cold sensations on top of my shin bone, sometimes pain in my groin and hip, and have had a Few very painful episodes of pain like some kicked me in my privates after sitting and then getting up.. still have the horrible back pain but has increased to include more on my left back side... Of course if I sit over 10 minutes my butt goes to sleep... I have checked the internet when I get up and about and can't seem to find anything about the L2-3 or what the L-2 root nerve affects,,seems to be rare.. Thanks for your help.
It does take time for nerves to heal, and more time for some than others. A lot depends on how compressed and for how long a nerve was compressed plus how our individual body heals. It's probably a bit early yet, but always something to speak with the doctor about.
Sorry to hear about your pain, Ive had a failed lamectomy fusion bone dowles rods the works (and i am still able to laugh) I can understand your groin pain thats in the S-1 part of your back ( Ive learned a lot form al the Dr's ive been to) the toe pain sounds like L5-S1 but as was posted it takes time for you to heal your body has been thru a great ordeal.
I havent been able to find one online (nerve distribution chart or nerve function chart)other wise id post where you could find it (as long as it wasent agenst the rules of the board)
Sorry your having such a difficult time. I agree with everything the others have said ~
I also think you should have this checked out thouroughly! It's possible that a disc fragment could have been missed this alone could cause your symtoms. I assume your Lami was done due to a herniation? I wouldn't worry too much about the "pins & needles" sensation it very well could be your nerves regenerating. You could be fine and all of this pain could be normal ~ but I would seek immediate answers from the Dr and let HIM tell you if all is within normal limits.
Fly On the Wall,,, perfect . That is the best search word that I have found. I have found a lot of my answers... another word that I found to search under is Myotomes. Thank you so very much. Great charts are found when I search under the engine ****** for dermatomes. Leaf
