Re: forget the doc's i need your help and opinion

Go see a physiatrist and tell him your symptoms. It really does sound like you have SI dysfunction, which no MRI or CT or X-Ray will show. My MRI only showed that my SI joint was higher on the side that it hurts on. It has been two years since my injury. My torn ligament is just not healing. Maybe you have the same problem.

See if staying in bed for an entire day and only getting up to pee works. I try things to isolate my pain. I had a whole pain free day until I squated down in the shower to pick up my dropped soap. Back to Advil for me.

Ask your doctor to run an immunity test to see if you tore a ligament and it is just not healing. Couldn't hurt.

Also, they can do a CT scan with dye to see where your inflammation is.

Re: forget the doc's i need your help and opinion

Sorry for all the frustration and pain your in.

I can't offer any definitive answers for you of course but the "Black Discs" are degenerated (or have lost their liquid) - some people have DDD and have no pain while others have severe and disabling pain from DDD alone.

The numbess, tingling and other things could be nerve problems, which could be caused by the DDD or it could be any number of other things, obviously SOMETHING is causing your pain ~ sounds like you need to find a NEW Dr.

Each of us here can relate and I do hope you see another Dr - only some reasonable answers to what could be causing your pain (and then getting treated) are gonna help your anxiety over the unknown and we will all be here and be happy to offer you as much support as we can.

Good Luck
and please keep us posted!

What did the MRI report say? Specifically what did the radiologist say regarding the two disc that you said are dark? I would start with that and then get a referral to a PM to get testing done and start with pain treatment.

Good luck!

Re: forget the doc's i need your help and opinion

You really have to try to have a new doctor. This one is either not being honest with you or else he is not very good. Those 2 black discs are dried up, which means you could be experiencing pain from nerves being pinched. If you can't get a new specialist, then ask yours point blank about what you have been told here.

I'm so sorry you are getting treated that way. It's the main reason I don't want to see this country go to any kind of government health care program.

Re: forget the doc's i need your help and opinion

I had the same symptoms for a herniated disc in the lumbar region of my back. The pain went across my hip, down the outside of my left thigh to my knee, my knee would even swell up & be hot, also I could see the muscle jump in the leg from nerve pain. My foot also would be tingly from it too. If I were you, I'd look for a new doc.

Re: forget the doc's i need your help and opinion

i'm gonna throw this into the mix:

is it possibly all 3???? i have piriformis syndrome (sciatica is the looser term), si joint pain, annular tear l3-4, and ddd l4-5. ALL but ddd were the result of an accident in 2000, but NONE of them are "connected" to each other (like radiation).

mine took 4 years to completely diagnose, so keep at it! i know we've shared info before, but wanted to give you some support if i could.

like others have said, if you could post the various diagnoses we might be able to pin down some ideas. i think the piriformis might be spot on, based on what you said. sounds just like mine. got some good "tools" for you, if you'd like. just let me know and i'll be happy to post what i do for some relief.

i'd also question & research ANY treatment recommendations. i know they're experts and all, but you need to FULLY UNDERSTAND why they're guiding you in a particular direction.

good luck, and keep us posted!
