| Re: Neurontin for DDD?
I imagine the Neurontin is due your docs concerns about there being a radiculopathy involved in your pain presentation. Do you have pain that radiates from you back to the leg(s)? If so, then this is the reason that he/she may have prescribed the neurontin.
Neurontin is an anticonvulsant (initially developed for epilepsy). However, if you think of epilepsy you know that it is due to a chemical process that causes hyperactive signal at motor nerves causing unwanted movement. There are certainly other types of seizures but this helps with my analogy.
Pain secondary to radiculopathy is caused by irritated spinal nerves. Your nervous system is sending pain signals at a ridiculously high rate. Neurontin is believed to slow down and normalize those signals. There is much discussion to this day on how they work, so I won't even go there.
Good Luck!
