I have taken methylprednisolone for just two days now and I have almost no pain in my back or leg. I can take just 1 aspirin and have no pain at all. I still have the foot numbness and weakness in my calf. The strength is coming back in my calf too though. I can walk and put pressure on my toes now to push myself forward. It's still not as strong as the other leg however. I just wanted to say I love that stuff.
Kari,
Please call pharm and get an ok before adding and Nonsteroidal Anti inflammatories....asprin, advil, tylenol, vioxx, bextra....etc with the steriods. Glad your feeling better...you dont need any gi problems to deal with next ....
How was the tan??
I have taken methelprednisolone along with NSAIDs and was told by my doctor that it was okay. I was taking lodine at the time. I am glad to hear that the oral steroids are working wonders for you.
*Now that I think back, I believe he had me taking prilosec along with the medrol pack and the lodine to prevent stomach problems.
The tan was great. She put me in feet first this time. My head was barely in there. It felt like less then 10 minutes.
Now I wait.
My doctor said it was ok to take ibuprofen with the steroids last time about 3 months ago so I assume aspirin would be OK also. I only have a few days left on the steroid anyway so I should be fine. I also take a coated aspirin that is not supposed to cause stomach upset.
I totally and dearly love oral steroids, lol. Put me on that stuff and within 2 days I have no pain and it has always been that way. Too bad something can't be done about the awful side effects of the stuff.
Last time I took them it lasted for 2 1/2 months until I overdid it a little and then got a chiropractic adjustment that is what really caused my pain to come back.
I am taking it for 6 days. They are 4 mg tablets. I take 6 the first day spaced out over the day then 5 the next day then 4 the next day and so on. Tuesday will be my last day and I will only take 1 that day. Mine is called methylprednisolone. It is stronger then regular prednisone.
do oral steroid work similiar to the ESI? I've had those but they failed, would oral steroid help? how long are you on them? what are the side effects? I kinda remember my mom taking steroids, and she gained like 50 pounds!! any info would be great!! thanks
I only take the steroids for 6 days so I have had no side effects that I have noticed at all. No weight gain or anything. I suppose if someone took them long term that could be a problem. I have never had ESI so I could not really compare. They are the same ingredient pretty much though. One thing with taking it orally though it gets all thruout your body. I had lots of pain in my calf and it went right to that spot and got rid of the pain. So it will lower inflammation in all parts of the body not just right by the injection site.
I found out today though that my disc is damaged severely and putting severe pressure on my S1 nerve and am going to see a spine specialist on Thursday. I don't know what my options will be if I can have ESI or if I need surgery. It's really hard to say. So the oral steroids are helping with the pain but not taking away the cause of the problem. I just hope that when I go off of the steroids the pain does not come back.
