need stronger pain meds.please reply anyone

Noone has answered to my thread,so im posting a shortened version to try to get some feedback. Please anyone help me.Ive had excruciating middle and lower back pain for 2years and was diagnosed with scoliosis.Within these two years ive tried a million different meds and now am on a strong dose of a substance of morphine, Dihydrocodeine,Co-codamol and Diclofenac (UK).I first had x rays a year ago and was told to see my spine specialist again in just under a year.Recently i went to see him,had more x rays, with the x rays coming back showing that my spine has increased in the curvature only slightly (have a 20 degree curve). So i am now to have an MRI scan and tests and blood samples,to establish the underlying cause of this horrible pain.Im worried with so many thoughts taking over my mind.Im shutting myself away from everyone again with my depression, worrying and obsessing over my thoughts.Im in so much pain, and my painkillers are not working anymore as ive been on them for a few months and become tolerant.Im also suffering from clinical depression, and with all my meds im popping 13 pill a day, still to no avail!
I just wanted to know if anyone's bad back pain is eased with any type of med?Im at my wits end here and the pain is absolutly unbearable!

Holly

Re: need stronger pain meds.please reply anyone

Hi Holly,

Im sorry to hear about your chronic pain an suffering. Because your situation is such a chronic medical dianosis it is probably hard for someone to help you here online .

The only things I can suggest are some holistic approaches such as accupunture, hypnosis, meditation, aroma therapy, or has your doctor tried "this is not holistic" the cortizone injections for pain relief .....I have a few friends whom it helped for months for back an neck injuries but your medical dx may differ?

does your doctor have you in any therapeutic "physical therapy"?
Jacuzzi and massages with aromatic oils and herbs or have you read up on any crystals and healing for pain relief???....possibly a chiropractic doctor could assist for proper techniques an even more outlets to help you be in more comfort ? Again you should always consult with your primary doctor first who knows your condition best.

has your doctor mentioned about possibly applying heat/cold alternate or any antinflamatory meds help in the past: your doctor can only determine this with your input to treatments outcomes and has he referred you to a pain clinic?

Depression is common with your symptoms constantly annoying you has your doctor allowed any meds like a anti depressant for or a holistic approach like Therapy with a Therapist who can help you w/o medicine if that is the option your doctor an you feel is best for the depression ?

lastly if you feel your not getting the adequete attention or help needed I always get a second opinion..good luck hope you feel better soon.

Hope I was Of some help
Sabhel

Sorry you are in such a difficult pplace in your life. The previous poster's suggestions were good. An anti depressant might help to address the multi facets of your condition. Try not to isolate yourself...the deoression will get worse and your thoughts will too. Perhaps your family doctor would be able to co ordinate a better plan of care for you. Peace and healing thoughts are sent your way. Mary

Re: need stronger pain meds.please reply anyone

Thank you to lifegoeson and MARY G for replying. In response to both your questions about dealing with my depression, yes ive been on Zoloft 100mg for 3months now,but am getting my dose put higher.I see a councellor and a pyschiatrist both once a week.Although, i find it hard to open up to people so dont find they work that well for me.My depression has been caused by my bad childhood and recent bad family and friend issues. My back problems are also a factor which have contributed to this depression.

To lifegoeson:My doctor or physiotherapist have not really suggested holistic approaches, but have told me that i am to start a course of injections in my spine very soon.Im waiting for the hospital to inform me of this procedure still.
Also my physiotherapist which i see once a week, has made me join the gym to work on my poor posture, and to strengthen my weak muscles.I also go to pilates once a week, again to help with my posture.
Ive also tried a number of heat packs for my back, and massages, and massages based upon electrolosis, yet still to no avail. So,i am on anti inflamatory meds as well to try to ease the pain.I just dont know what to do anymore. It hurts like crazy, and is effecting me badly.Im only 17,and really dont think i deserve this pain and suffering.

Re: need stronger pain meds.please reply anyone

Hi Holly,
I hope it isn't too late to respond to your desperation. You are too young to be in such pain and feel like there is no relief in site. I don't have the same problem as you but I have several things wrong with my back. Osteoarthritis, Osteoperosis, brittle bones, spinal stenosis, etc. The list goes on. It is difficult to find pain meds that help. At most the just makes it a little tolerable. I don't know what type of doctor a physiotherapist is but I would recommend trying either a pain specialist or back specialist. I am sure it effects your posture but sometimes exercise or the wrong type can make things worse. What a pain specialist can do is give you spinal blocks where they will put you in twilite sleep and inject some type of medicine directly to the nerve that is causing your pain. They worked great for me for about 2-3 months but they are different for everyone. It could be that it might work for 6 months to a year for you. They have other options for you also. If nothing else helps the pain they have a nerve block that is about the size of a quarter and run some type of line to the nerve and it keeps the signal of pain from reaching the brain so you don't feel the pain. They put a temporary one in to see if it works before putting it in for long term. There are different types. Some let you adjust the level that you need. They are use to dealing specifically with pain and the back. It is sad that with so many cases such as ours that they treat the symptoms and not the problem itself. It doesn't hurt (no pun intended) to have a second or third opinion. If you feel that your doctor isn't doing what they should go to another doctor. It took me a few before I found one that knew what they were doing.
I don't know how you deal with it at such a young age. People don't understand unless they have gone through it. It does cause depression especially if you think you will have to deal with this the rest of your life. I don't like talking to people when I am in pain. I am now confined to the house due to my pain. I haven't done my grocery shopping for about 3 years now. I am older (49 yrs) but am like you. Feel like I am too young to go through this. By the way, I also had a bad childhood which long term stress can effect your health and the healing process. If possible, stay away from people who do not have your best interest at heart. I hope this helps you and if you need any other information or questions feel free to ask.
I feel your pain.
Brenda

Re: need stronger pain meds.please reply anyone

Dear Hoz, I am sorry for the pain you experienced regarding bad childhood issues, and life difficulties. Your life will not be like this forever. Good luck with the injections. They help many people. Something you have in your favor is your age. Healing is much faster in younger people. Hope the med dose changes help. There are so many medicines out there. Sometimes it takes a while to get the right personal dose and med. Peace and healing to you. Mary
