What OTC works best for nerve pain?

What's more effective on nerve pain (i.e. post-discectomy sciatic pain), Tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil (ibuprofin)?

Thanks, John

Re: What OTC works best for nerve pain?

I have been dealing with nerve pain for over 6 years and there isn't a OTC med that works, you are very lucky if the drs can find a prescription med that works fr nerve pain, thus far the only ones I have found that work I have severe allergic reactions to.
I wish you the best of luck and should you run across one that works I'd love to know.

Advil 'might" help,at least over tylenol anyway.but Linda IS very right about the extreme difficulty in treating nerve related pain. You would be much better off trying something like neurontin or a tricyclic andi deppressant like elavil. While i was awaiting my fusion surgery i was taking alot of Aleeve(naproxin)which did seem to help some.you only have to take two in the morning and two 12 hours later so it is a bit easier on your stomach.but I think the best thing would be to talk with your doc about pain control options, really.Hope you find something soon.marcia

Budweiser in the 12 pack! Seriously I've had no luck at all with any OTC's. Each person is different, you just have to try them.
