Torso Crooked After Back Injury. Please Help!!

Was doing yard work on Sunday. Felt a twinge in the back. Stopped right away and took some Aleve.

Within 24 hrs, I was expierencing spasms in the back and right leg to the point I could not walk, and my torso, north of the hips, is bent 10 degrees to the left. It is causing me to walk funny and looks like scoliosis. It is all very painful and I am growing concerned it is not just a "pulled back."

Doc gave me Vicodin to relax me and my muscles, but 72 hours later, it is jsut as bad (the bent back).

Any thoughts suggestions GREATLY appreicated!!

Get a recommendation and go to a good chiropractor. I'd suggest one who specializes in deep massage therapy and does gentle adjustment.

Yes, I recommend a Doctor that knows something about a Spine. You are out of alignment, see a chiropractor for the fix, and if that doesn’t do the trick, get an MRI and see a Spine Specialist after the Chiropractor. Drugs will not put you back in alignment.

DON"T GO TO THOSE USELESS CHIROPRACT. Go straight to a neurosurgeon have an take a took and and test done such as MRI done. I bet you have case of bulging disc even hernicated disc. I bet you also feel that sciatica attack of the pain u are describing. It's better to get to the root of the problem now and save you a lot of time and money doing conservative treatments.
Just for your Info. I was like this a couple of times and I did not go to spine or neurosurgeon until one day. I got this back bent body lean...that was so painful that I couldn't walk for like 2 days.and I have to take painkiller to be able to walk again. After that episode, I decided that this is more than just a simple spasm or muscle pull. Bu that time it kinda like(too little too late..after the fact thing.. you know what I mean. After all the pain, sleepness nites, days off from work etc.).

The end result is just a microd I will have coming up in a couple of weeks.

My 2cents worth here. At this moment.. you do not know what is going on with your back. Obviously something is going on and you are not aligned, but WHY, needs to be answered FIRST! Going to a chiro right off without xrays and mri first is in my opinion playing roulette with your spine and it's not worth it.See a spine specialist FIRST! Then if you are out of alignment and nothing else is going on.. the chiro would be ideal.

Let us know how are you doing going forward.

absolutely!! don;t let anyone touch you who doesn't know your history. my husband had back surgery 2 years ago and after a few days i notices his whole torso was going in the opposite direction than his lower body. I called the surgeon immediately who saw him within hours. he was walikng in a funny way due to the pain. went to his PT and they straightened him up within a couple of sessions with no manipulation or anything invasive.

not to undermine the previous poster point, but PT manipulation is only temporaly releaving the the pain and scoliosis. It will come back again and again until you have it treat correctly not by the conservative treatment. I am not saying cons. treatment don't work. It works but depend on how much the level of pain you are feeling. In case of extreme sciatica pain, no matter how much conserative treatment you do, the pain will be right where you left off.

<<<Doc gave me Vicodin to relax me and my muscles, but 72 hours later, it is jsut as bad (the bent back).>>>. What kind of 'doc' did you go to? I assumed that you went to an orthopaedic MD, and he evaluated your problem, and decided it was muscular, and as such prescribed the Vicodin. Of course you ought to be evaluated before you go to a chiropractor, but jumping into, and worrying about the prospect of surgery, is extreme. So, if you didn't go to an 'orthopaedic spine specialist, do that. I suspect you'll be advised to consider a conservative path of treatment.

Even if an MRI shows back issues, that doesn't mean that you are experiencing pain from those issues. 80% of people who have some kind of back issue that shows up on an MRI have absolutely no pain or symptoms of that issue. An MRI doesn't rule out the obvious, that, from what you said,<<Was doing yard work on Sunday. Felt a twinge in the back.>>> it sounds as if you may have 'put your back out of alignment, or even better that that, maybe you have a muscle spasm'.

i believe the original poster said "looks like scoliosis" to give the picture of what the position is. you would not get that from twisting or bending doing yard work. but you could get it from dislocating something, muscle spasms, or any sort of lubar damage. my opinion is that you need to see a dr. and get some pictures or to say the least be checked to see if it is just muscle spasms. they are extrememly paingul and sometimes take longer to heal.

yes, I read <<<looks like scoliosis>>>also. But seemed as if dkaplan76 was saying it <<<looks like scoliosis>>> to him. Didn't mention if MD did x-ray of his spine.....

I've come to realize, after spending the past 5 months with back issues, that it's so important to be proactive in seeking treatment. My point is, it's very necessary to explore all options. Go to an MD spinal specialist, and get an MRI, an x-ray, and an opinion. Then take it slowly, and start with the conservative and work up to the extreme. Hopefully, the extreme, surgery, will not be necessary.

And yes, muscle spasms can make you appear as if the spine is twisted, or one hip might look higher.....a variety of things. The same is true if the sacroilliac goes out of wack. Those problems can be helped by a good chiropractor.

Re: Torso Crooked After Back Injury. Please Help!!

What has probably happened is your sacroilaiac joint has become dysfunctional. This is the case with most cases of LBP. You probably have weak ab muscles, unable to pull up on the front of your pelvis when you stand up, and this allows the back sacroiliac joints to separate and this causes ligaments to stretch, nerves to become irritated (the L4-5 is typically what causes the sciatica) and your torso to appear twisted. Take a look and see if your legs are different lengths, this will show that the inominates of the pelvis are riding askew, either up or back. Check out SIJD and once this is corrected, you will have to work at keeping it that way. I have described some exercises earlier this month, do a search on my name and look at doing them every few hours.
