Question A year after surgery question about falling

Hello All,

A year ago I had my second surgery for spinal stenosis with the added removal of 2 bulging discs. Everything has been pretty good considering my first surgery a year earlier was a nightmare with no success. The leg pain, hip and sciatica pain has lessened but not gone away. I take topamax which makes it livable. About a month ago I was leaving work, just walking to my car, one minute I am looking at the sky the next I am flat on my back. I could not get up for a few minutes, didn't break anything, but my ankle seemed to just go out from under me. It was not raining or damp. Since then I walk really slow, ninety year olds are passing me by. Mostly because I am still sore from the fall and am so afraid of falling again.

Now, yesterday I walked slowly to my car because it was raining, as I opened the back door to put my briefcase etc in the back again I lost balance almost went down, dropped my stuff, papers went flying, everything was wet and there I was afraid to really move quickly to retrieve anything for fear I would completely fall down, just hanging on the door. My ankles did not want to hold me up.

My question for those who have had surgery, have you had similar experience with your ankles or knees giving out and basically loosing your balance and falling down. Where do I go, what do I do, this site had been helpful to me so much I come here first then find the doctor I need. I thank everyone in advance who can take a minute to give me some advice.

Re: A year after surgery question about falling

Not sure what's causing it but since you have had back surgeries, it is quite probable this is a nerve issue related to your back. Loss of control in the limbs, ankles, foot etc.. is something to be very concerned about.

I wouldnt wait this out too long. I think you need to get yourself back to the orhto or neuro surgeon and let them know what's going on with you.

Let us know how you are doing. Take care and be very careful. Tammy
