orthopedic surgeon vs neurosurgeon

My husband needs surgey on his back for a lower disc. We saw 2 doctors. The ortho doc has given him his 3 epederials already and now says surgery. We have an appointment with a neurosurgeon this week. Which one should we pick?

Re: orthopedic surgeon vs neurosurgeon

Choose the one with the most experience in spine surgery and technique. Really check them out, and also.. which one do you feel has that special something that you look for in a doctor? That too is important. You dont necessarily have to "like" your doctor, but you do have to have a good level of communication with this type of surgery. It's very important.

Good luck.

Re: orthopedic surgeon vs neurosurgeon

I agree to both poster's, I would want my surgeon to have a trained fellowship to , these young Dr.'s nowdays come out with fresh new talent and willing to try new things . Then you have the traditional surgeon who isn't up on all the new things out there to offer you. I like my doctor , he's smart , young and try's new things and sticks with me and he's an easy going guy like me. Do alot of searching because once you have a surgeon operate on you , other's don't like to touch you.
