Indentation above buttocks & lower back pain

I have had lower back pain for several months now. I had a MRI and they told me I had a touch of Degenerative Joint arthritis. 2 wks ago, an indentation appeared above my left buttocks. I had my chiro and doctor check it out and they said it was odd, but don't worry about it. Since that time my pain has migrated to more on the left side, and now to the front. I am freaking out...
Help?

Re: Indentation above buttocks & lower back pain

I wonder if that indentation is a muscle spasm, where the muscle gets really tight and squeezes... Does it hurt badly at that spot? Does heat help?

Re: Indentation above buttocks & lower back pain

Why are you being treated by a chiro at this point? I strongly suggest you seek the counsel of a spine doctor to see what is going on in there. Have you had an MRI done recently? Chiros can be very useful, but when you have back trauma, it's really important to be properly diagnosed. Improper manipulation could cause irrepairable damage, and nothing is worth that in my opinion.

The indentation is more than likely a soft tissue issue, but you need to know "why" and treat it accordingly.

The fact that your pain is migrating could mean something more serious and you really need to be seen by a spine specialist if possible.

Best wishest to you and please come back and let us know how you are doing. take care. Tammy

Re: Indentation above buttocks & lower back pain

The first thing I thought of when I saw indentation was also possible muscle spasm. I know for myself, I had such bad spasms that would cause distortion. Ugh, mine even spread upwards to my head, neck, and cheeks....my cheeks got so pulled from the spasms it felt and Looked like someone was trying to pull them down off my face.

Re: Indentation above buttocks & lower back pain

I have an indentation in my left buttocks. Only in the left.

Its been there for about 10 years now. I've researched it well. Mine is a Dent in the Muscle...the only way to get rid of it is to have surgery. It looks horrible when I am in my bathing suit. It looks odd, as you said. I too have lumbar problems from a disc that herniates to the left...HOWEVER, the dent appeared many years before the pain and problems with my back. Just an fyi....the dent won't hurt you any...but it prob won't go away either.
