Unhappy Severe Muscle Spasms, Entire Back... 6 mo. post op

i just turned 30 and am having severe spasms in my back on a daily basis. this has been ongoing for almost three years now, but especially since i had a fusion in june of this year. they did ant./pos. interbody fusion with cages and tension band at L4-L5. they used donor bone graft. i've already completely fused according to my ns.

these aren't ordinary aches and pains. i hurt so bad at times i don't think i can stand it any longer. currently on 4mg. zanaflex that helps pretty much by putting me to sleep. no other muscle relaxer has come close.

is there anyone out there in a similar situation as me? especially after surgery? are the spasms normal after six months? will they subside.

A massage always helped my spasms. But you need to have them continuously. Just one does not seem to help me. Good luck.

I'm having those pains now at 3 months post op. I'm not fused yet. The therapist tells me it is swollen tissue around the surgery site. Maybe you should call the dr. Maybe you need some physical therapy. Feel better.

I had really bad spasms my first weekend home. I couldn't even get off the couch. The doctor switched me from zanafles to baclofen and gave me lorazepam and after about an hour all was well. I feel for you those spasms are the worst thing I have had through out this recovery process and hope I never have them again. If it continues you might ask about the Lorazepam akak ativan. It really helps me but it is very addictive.

I was on Valium. The Dr. switched me to Skelaxin. I don't know what works other then the heating pad for me. Today was okay. I realize my neck is causing most of my pain.
