phys. therapist wants to crack my back&neck

Okay, so I really trust him. He's really good, but when he mentioned that I kind of just looked at him like, "no way!" But he reassured me that he couldn't break anything. I guess if you know what you are doing and are really trained. He said he wouldn't do it if I was uncomfortable with it. Any thoughts from anyone that has experieced this? I was in a MVA (rear-ended) in mid January and have had neck, upper, and lower back pain and pressure since then. This week will be week 3 of physiotherapy.

No way would I let anyone do this without discussing it with my neuro/spinal surgeon first. Just my 2 cents.

Re: phys. therapist wants to crack my back&neck

After my lower back fusion surgery, I began to have pain in my thorasic region. Apparently it is very common for lower back surgery patients to get their upper back region a "tad out of whack" because of the changes in and lack of exercise.

My rehab therapist did a snap, crackle, pop on my thorasic region a few times during my rehab. I was hesitant myself, until afterward. I sighed with relief after, and she asked me to get up and walk and see how it felt. I was able to move much freer and then she asked me if I "wanted a smoke"! hahahaha.

I told her it wasn't that good! hahahaha!

If you have been placed in rehab therapy by your doctor and this doctor referred you to THAT particular therapist, the doctor MUST have TRUST in that therapist to do what is necessary for your rehab, otherwise they would not have referred you in the first place.

Just my 2 cents worth. Hope you feel better soon. Tammy

Re: phys. therapist wants to crack my back&neck

Well, my dr. did refer me to that place. I was just placed with this particular therapist, so my dr. really just referred me to the actual physiotherapy place. Either way we will see what happens. I go tomorrow at 3, so I am full of anxiety right now. I don't know what to expect at tomorrow's session. I'll let you know if anything does happen.

Re: phys. therapist wants to crack my back&neck

Personally I don't think a physical therapist is qualified to be cracking anything. Chiropractor yes. I was always told by other doctors to never let them crack your neck ever. I use to get the back done prior to fusion surgery by the chiropractor. I guess it helped. Hard to tell because I've never been pain free.

Re: phys. therapist wants to crack my back&neck

If just the thought of getting your neck cracked is causing this much anxiety I recomend you tell him to crack his own!
