Re: Clover and UsTLA in surgery in minutes

I was very restless last night and I guess it was because I needed to pray for you both thru the night. May the LORD be with you, your surgeon and family during your surgery.

Re: Clover and UsTLA in surgery in minutes

I will be praying for UsTLA and Clover today! May God guide the Surgeons hands and give Clover and UsTLA and their families calmness and when they wake up less pain than they expected and no complications. We will look forward to good results!

My prayers also are with Clover and Usta too - thankfully now the fear of surgery is over. I'll be praying for the recovery ahead as well as quick evidence of improvement seen. I can't wait to hear how they're doing.

Best wishes and lots of prayer,
OnHold

Re: Clover and UsTLA in surgery in minutes

Hello all, won't be on here long as I am quite sore, it is hard to sit for very long. The surgery went well, I only needed the discectomy, no lam. He shaved off the protruded portion of the disc that was pressing on the nerve bundles. It was done minimally invasive. I just have two small incisions. There is still nerve pain and numbness in the right leg, the pain in the hip is greatly minimized. He said it would take a few weeks for the strength to return and for the numbness to leave. He said it is kind of like a garden hose that has had a kink in it for a while. So here is hoping for a speedy recovery!!! I hope everything went just as well for Clover, I can't wait to hear from her!!! Thanks so very much for the prayers and support, you may never know just how much it means, I can assure you that it means tons!!! Thanks! Will post later when feeling a little more spry.. TTULTR, Usta

Re: Clover and UsTLA in surgery in minutes

Hey Shawley

I bet I can tell you how a thanksgiving turkey feels! LOL It is ok that you didn't post before we went in, I know you were still thinking about and praying for us. It's very sore at the surgical site, the muscles are in overdrive. The horrible hip pain is gone!!! Praise God, that was the worse. The rest the md said would resolve over time. Leg pain and numbness should improve over the coming weeks. All I have to do now is figure out what I can and can't do. After the car ride home today, I can tell you I won't be getting into or out of a car for a while ugh. Once I get up and start moving it feels pretty good. It is really hard to get up and down. Have to remember to "roll like a log". Pepper, Jenn, Onhold, thanks again for the prayers, and everyone else that was thinking and praying for me. I really, from the bottom of my heart say thanks! Yvette, you tell that ole man, I had to tell mine too which was the only way I could get him to give y'all the short post last night. Thanks again everyone, I will check back later... ttfn, Usta

They are also in my prayers. I know before all of my surgeries. I am super scared and nervous. It will be good to here from them afterwards.

Re: Clover and UsTLA in surgery in minutes

Usta, you mentioned the car ride home - could you have survived a 6-hour trip home after surgery? Was it the pain of the ride, or getting in/out of the car? Could you sit up comfortably or did you need to lie down?

I ask because I'm considering going to an excellent hospital 6 hours away instead of having a less-experienced local doctor do the surgery. But I can't imagine a 6-hour ride NOW, let alone after surgery.

Also, I watched a couple of "minimally-invasive" surgeries on the internet last weekend and after seeing those I can't figure out how you could have a discectomy without laminectomy. Is there really enough room to get in without a laminectomy, or did you have a laser discectomy? (If you had a herniated disc, how big was it?)

Sorry for so many questions when you're probably in la-la-land from the meds! Hope you keep feeling better each day!

Re: Clover and UsTLA in surgery in minutes

Hi Ustra! It's good to hear from you already and I'm so glad you're doing okay from your surgery. :-) They didn't keep you long, did they. I had a disectomy in 2003 but had to stay 3 days. Take care and don't overdo. I was praying for you yesterday and will continue. Thanks for posting - I was looking for your post as I wanted to see how you were.

Re: Clover and UsTLA in surgery in minutes

Unfortunately, they do not keep you long in the hospital these days unless there is a problem. You are in and out just like an oil change. LOL!!

As far as a 6 hour car trip -- that is difficult on a good day. I could not imagine freshly out of surgery. Can you make a bed in a truck to come home on??
