Re: Laminectomy/Laminotomy

I had a laminectomy last May. In my case, my doctor did not let me bend or do any lifting for 6 weeks afterwards and to tell you the truth I certainly did not feel like it. I would say that you will need full time help for at least 3 to 4 weeks as long as you have someone laying stuff and putting it within your reach and who is willing to do your laundry for awhile afterwards. Ideally I think 6 weeks is safe but you can do it for less if you have to.

Remember this is my experience and each case varies. Take care and good luck.

Re: Laminectomy/Laminotomy

Thanks, 123
That's what I was afraid of that it will be a while.
With all this problem with the left side, pain and numbness from hip down to toes and a broken right foot I am ready to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Laminectomy/Laminotomy

I just had a laminectomy done on Jan 25 and I can tell you you will need help initially. I was not allowed to drive for almost a month, like 123dietdrpepper said in their post no lifting, bending or twisting. I was feeling sooooo much better after surgery not having the constant pain I had prior to surgery. I only had surgical pain and for me wasn't all that bad. I only needed the pain meds for the first week or two and I was sent home with only Tylenol w/Codine because I had a horrible allergic reaction to the percocet. NOT FUN! If it helps guage what you can do I live alone in a 2 story house and I had no one staying with me at night. During the day my Mom or friends would stop by to see if I needed anything, took me places and aired me out But I would follow the Drs advice especially after you start feeling better again. Best of luck to you!
