Still no answers..

Any ideas from all of you are welcome. I have been dealing with lower left groin/back pain. I have been, scanned, scoped, pokes and even diagostic pelvic surgery and nothing. I have seen over 15 doctors, nothing.

The last Dr was a nuerologist, he is not sure nothing with the nerves. There is a hard tendon almost in the crease of my groin some Dr's say lymphnodes others have no idea. I have been checked for hernia, female problems still nothing.

Could this pain be coming from my hips?? According to the MRI I have a slight bulge L-4 and 5. I have pain when I sit for long periods. I walk and lift weights(light) for an hour a day.

Oh yah...I am a 36 yrs old female. But I feel like a 90 yr old carrying around my heating pad and the pain meds...oh my

Re: Still no answers..

Sorry for your pain...
Did they ever checked your SIJoint? It can give you pain in that area - but no diagnostic test available to point the reason for the pain. Only knowlegable Dr can diagnose you with SIJ problems.
And of course it can come from your hip and/or back.

Re: Still no answers..

I am kind of thinking the same thing...SI joint. I have an injection and only one week pain free!!! So I started doubting that...but it might be??

Thanks for the reply!

Do you have pain constantly or does it come and go? Does it get worse a few days before your period?

Hello Reyne, Yes, it can definitely be coming from your back/bulging discs.
Did anyone do an EMG (nerve conduction test) on you? Have you been to an Orthopedic Spine Specialist...if not, that is who I would go to. They are different than regular Ortho's. The Specialists go to school an additional 1 or 2 years and study nothing but the Spine and work on nothing on the spine.

Have you had any falls, auto accidents, (even mild fender benders) that sort of thing. How long ago did all this pain start???

If you have been to at least 15 Dr.'s, you'd think one of them would be able to tell you something....anything...I know you must be totally disgusted by now.

There is a chart you can look at called a Dermatome chart, and it will line up the pain areas with the Disc that might be causing the pain. Do a search on Dermatome chart, and see if this may be where your pain is coming from.

I think the only way to tell if it is indeed the S1 is an injection. If the pain stops immediately with the inj., then that is your pain generator. I'll try to check back later to see if anyone else has any suggestions. I sure hope you can find some relief. I have suffered with my back since a fender bender in 1987, and trust me....It is no fun whatsoever....
Good Luck to you...

Re: Still no answers..

Renye,
My SI joint is clearly a prob, and I have a disc issue in L5 S1. I can tell you that I'm your age, and my pain increases from the time I ovulate until a few days after my period. Not only do I have pain in the SI Joint area, but frequently I have "girl" pain, such as during sex or menstruation, and multiple gyno tests show nothing. I due believe it's due to irritation - somewhere - due to the SI Joint and disc issues. I tell you this so that in case you have similar issues, you don't worry that you have woman issues to boot!

Have you been to PT? They should be able to ID if your pelvis is unstabile, and complicating things for you. There are lots of good tips and info if you search the boards under "SI Joint". Many folks have been helpful to me.

Re: Still no answers..

You all are great..thanks for the response. I just feel so frustrated!! I have been to sooooo many Dr's some do not care, hell a few did not even have the correct chart or MRI. The Dr's that do care and take the time to examine me say "there is something there and you should pursue it". Well pursue it with who?? I am about ready for the Mayo clinic??

I have gone 2 rounds with a chiropractor and the pain is worse. I walk and hour daily, stetch, tone so I do not let this pain control me. I just cannot sit and I have a desk job by friday I am just junk!!!

Yes the pain is always there. Sometimes dull, sharp, throbs and my back just aches by the end of the day. I sit at work with heat, ice and I stretch in my office.

I am just sick of the pills they mess with my body and my mind. I just want some relief!!!

Thanks to all of you and good luck!

Re: Still no answers..

I saw 2 diff chiros for 2 mos; the more I read the more I think chiro care for low back should only be done by those who know about SI Joint issue, cuz I think the twisting and stuff they do down there can be bad news for low back issues - just my opinion.

Have you been to PT? Also, read up on the pubis symphythis & osteitis pubis, since you have so much groin related stuff going on. FYI, a quick way to reset your pubis symphysis, in the event it's out of alignment, is to lie on the floor on your back, with feet flat on the floor. Squeeze a ball between your knees (volleyball is perfect size, but most bigger balls will do). I often hear a little pop - more like a snap. That's the pubic symphysis being re-set.
Sounds like you have more going on, but maybe this will help ease some of the lower pelvic stuff if you do it regularly????

Have you looked into the symptoms of "Endometriosis"? For years I also have had chronic (everyday) back pain. I haven't had any surgeries but have had 4 children (all natural). But in Jan/Feb of this year I started having a pain in my left hip and my lower back area. It was faint at first but then was constant. No matter if I sat or lay down. It gets worse a few days before my period. I also have pain with sex (before, during & after). My periods have become REALLY DARK...so, I went to the doctor and she said it was probably a pulled muscle. I told her that it felt "deep". That it didn't feel like a pulled muscle to me. Who hasn't had a pulled muscle before? Plus I told her I hadn't fallen or injured myself? She said to come back in a week or two if it didn't go away...IT DIDN'T :-0 I have been back several times since then and because of people here and everywhere on the net. I have been able to educate myself about my own symptoms...well, I finally, after about 3-4 months and suggesting to my family medicine if they could check for endometriosis (some women go years without a diagnosis) I was referred to an ob/gyn...Since then, I have been on Vicodin (everyday) for pain and have encountered a painful sigmoidoscopy (another story) which came back fine...I will FINALLY go in for laparoscopy surgery on Sept. 24th, 2007 to confirm diagnosis :-) Laparoscopy is the only way to confirm endometriosis. Don't know why... Maybe you should push for other diagnosis or see an ob/gyn?...hope this helps...take care, I.

Philly - check out info on SI Joint on Healthboards. Before your period, the hormone Relaxin makes the ligaments in that area lax, which can allow your pelvis to shift around a teeny bit, but enough to cause HUGE pain. If the pain is in or around the spot on your glute where some folks have a dimple, or along the top crest of your hip bone in back, for sure explore SI Joint Disorder to help you along your way (if only to rule it out).

Further, be VERY careful from ovulation to after menstruation when working out & cleaning - you are more prone to hip and knee injury due to that hormone issue.

Re: Still no answers..

Hi, it definitely can be coming from that disc. Especially if it hurts when while sitting all day or when standing too long. These 2 things put the most pressure on your spine. And if the disc didnt look that bad on the MRI, it might bulge out more while you sit or stand...The MRI was probably done laying flat, right? BUt when you sit or stand the pain gets worse (I think you said that). I had progressive low back & leg pain and even when I had my MRI and found out I had disc herniations and central canal stenosis, my rheumy told me to visit my Gyno to see if anything was going on in there. I did have ovarian cysts show up on my SI joint MRI and my hip MRI, but my Gyno said they were of no concern. My gyno did find something else very early, but that's been taken care of and she even said it wouldnt have caused the pain I was having. I tell you, so many times, the docs see the MRI reports & Films and just think b/c it doesnt look that bad, that it cant be causing your pain. Medicine does not know everything! If the chiropractic sessions are making your pain worse, then you probably should stop going.
Have you seen a spine specialist at all?

Re: Still no answers..

Yes, I have had laporscopy to check for endo. That was one of the first things they did. The gyno found little behind my pelvis and it should not cause pain. I have also had a colonoscopy, MRI, 2 Ct scans, every blood test under the sun, an ultra sound, several x-rays. I have been to a hernia specialist, nuerologist, ortho, PT and now chiropractor. So far the only Dr I trust is my Pain Dr who I have an appt with on Thursday.

The Pain Dr sent me to the nuerologist to make sure it was not nerve related. The nuerologist said there is something in my groin crease area and he does not think it is lymphnodes. He told me it is something I need to pursue and talk to the Pain Dr. Now the chiro seems to thinks it is lyphnodes.

I am thinking it is SI joint. I just want some answers, a diagnosis. Thanks for all your understanding and help!!!!

Re: Still no answers..

Reyne, hi again. Has anyone ever done an MRI "with contrast", or a Myelogram? This is where they use dye with both of these tests and it will show things up more clearly....

I'm with you....I would just like for someone to tell me where my pain is REALLY coming from. Good Luck. I'll check back in later.....
Brenda

Re: Still no answers..

Brenda-
I went back an re-read your first post to me. I have always had back problems. About 15yrs ago I pulled my back at work. I had a lipolma that was removed also on the left side and a huge scar from it. They pulled out a baseball size of tissue from my joint. But the Dr's think that has nothing to do with my current pain.

I had a car accident a few years later also!! I am not a back pain virgin...that is for sure.

I have had to CT Scan with contrast. I am not sure if my back sets off the groin pain or the other way around. I just want to know what I am dealing with and to start recovery. I have had to get a new bed, new chair at work, I am on a heating pad constantly. The painkillers just are hard on my body.

I am sure all my aches and pains are something you can relate to.
