Re: What does the back brace used after lumbar surgery look like.

As I understand they are different.
Next day I came home after the surgery, my Dr sent to my house another Dr who took my size and custom made back brace for me. It is huge, looks like a rib cage with strings. When I wore it I had to tie strings very tight in a front. Actualy as agly as it looked, it would definately protect me in case of falling or if somebody behind me push me by accident.
I had to wear it for 9 month.

Like Moldova said, there are several types. I had the TLSO. It's hard plastic and can be either one piece or two. I had both types, one after the other. The one piece type has an opening in the front so you can squeeze into it. Both types are held tight with velcro. They go from under your arms and above your chest to as far down as you can have it and still sit. It definitely protects you!

The TLSO is fitted by putting a body cast on you. They cut the cast back off and use it to make a form for molding the brace, so it's an exact fit just for you.

I wore mine for 5 months full time, except when I was in bed.

Hope this helps.
Emily
