Severe pain upon waking up?

I've suffered with lower back pain on & off for 13 years since I started in the healthcare field & I've had a lot of 'catches' in my back where it hurt down my hip and knee to my foot but it always went away within 12 hours or less.

After not working for almost 2 months I lifted a folding table with 4 chairs in a box. The next day I could not get out of bed, I had to have my husband pull me upright just to hobble on one leg to the bathroom.

By the end of the day it's not as bad, but heaven forbid I lay down & rest for a little bit or it is excruciating pain when I attempt to get up.

The pain is in left sole of my foot, ankle, knee, thigh & buttock up to the coccyx area. Does it sound like sciatica? I ask because I hadn't seen anything about people not being able to even roll over in bed because of it or being able to even stand when they first wake up.

I'm hesitant to go to the Dr. as we are trying to have a baby & I'm fairly sure they aren't going to want to give me any drugs in that case..making the dr. visit a waste, however the husband is pulling hard for me to go.

Thanks in advance.

~K.

Re: Severe pain upon waking up?

I've had Sciatica more than once. EVERY TIME I was just like what you describe and I could not walk, and barely crawled to the bathroom. It was without a doubt the most painful experience of my life during those times. A few days of Muscle Relaxers and Pain Meds and I was good to go. Usually gets better after a few days.

This progressed to what my life is today, but took years. See your PCP and take good care of your back so you can avoid ending up like many you see on this board.

Re: Severe pain upon waking up?

Go see a doctor. You don't want this to get worse. The pain is showing you that something is wrong. Your husband is right. You could be doing damage to nerves that could become permanent.
