Surgery moved to this Wednesday - Lumbar Decompression and SCS Replacement

This has put me in a more nervous mode than usual.. I was to have surgery this past Friday, but the Drs office had called and said there was an emergancy and he had to change the date. Here's the thing I won't know for sure if the date is actually going to be Wednesday or not until I call tomorrow and make the arrangements all over again. Thank goodness I don't have to do the Labs all over again. The only thing is that I am not allowed to take most of Meds and I am in more pain b/c of it. I hope that I do not have to wait past wednesday. After building my expectaion up to having it done a few days ago to having to wait another 5 days is a real bummer. Has anyone ever had this ordeal. I have the support of my family and my friends but right now that is not enough. the pain at times is more unbearble then usual. I come home and spen the rest of the day and or night on the heating pad hoping that it well help.
I am sorry to be rambling on but sometimes I know if I speak it or type it will help me cope. Please tell me I am not alone in this matter.

Hi Chetnsue,
I'm sorry your surgery was rescheduled. You get yourself all psyched up and ready to go and then.....wait some more. I surely hope that you won't have to wait past Wed. I am surprised that there are more than a few people whose surgery has been cancelled/rescheduled. You are not alone. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Surgery moved to this Wednesday - Lumbar Decompression and SCS Replacement

Chetnsue I just wanted to let you know what my experience was on my surgery. I had my first surgery on 1/29/08 for Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion on L5/S1 and I was suppose to have the second part of the surgery a Posterior Lumbar Interbody fusion on 2/12/08. I ended up with a wound infection for the first surgery so they kept cancelling my next surgery. I went to the doctor every Thursday and they would check the incision and if it didn't look okay they I was delayed another week. This went on for 3 weeks so I know how you feel. I didn't have to worry about my pain medications but I did have to stay off of my inflammatory medication. Are they not giving you your pain medication?

Hang in there and hopefully everything will work out for you this week and just remember that we are all here for you.

Good Luck
Linda

Yes I remember you. Dr R had an emergency and he had to reschedule the surgery. I am going to find out today whether or not everything is a go or not for Wednesday. As for Dr M, I am sure that if you explain to him that the meds you are on now are not helping he would understand, and maybe change tehm. He has done that a few times for me. Good luck with both Doc's appointments today. I will be on later tonight to fill everyone in on what happens with my phone call with Denise.

I will be back on later to day to fill everyone in on what happens with the call whether or not it is staying on for Wednesday or moving again. I do know that I am getting anxious all over again and that feeling really sucks. Will talk to you later

Re: Surgery moved to this Wednesday - Lumbar Decompression and SCS Replacement

I am going to have to wait till today to hopefully find out if I am going in tomorrow for the surgery. I went to call yesterday to find out the information and Denise wasn't in, and for some strange reason no one else to could help out there. which I am unsure of why. Unless the new girl I talked to didnt know what she was doing and in that cases that really sucks. I would think that you could ask the doctor if the surgery is on or not for Wednesday. I mean I told I needed to know so that I could inform my husband whether or not he will have tot try to switch his vacation one more time. Also I have to let work know. A days notice is not that good. So I guess I will have stew and wait until today to get what I hope is going to be good news.
Until then I am off t work I go, and then wait.

Re: Surgery moved to this Wednesday - Lumbar Decompression and SCS Replacement

Oh my goodness. What a situation...I would also be full of anxiety...if they cancelled my surgery at the last min. and could not give you the definite date. You poor thing...keep calling the office...this is not acceptable as far as I'm concerned...didn't they know last week if they had an opening on Wed, when they were cancelling your surgery for Fri...
Just wanted to wish you the best...

Re: Surgery moved to this Wednesday - Lumbar Decompression and SCS Replacement

Hi neighbor! Who is your Dr since I think I leave in same area...
I understand how you feel; but it happens if they have emergencies sometimes. My surgery was moved 3 times during January to March '06 so I know exactly how frastrating this can be.
I worked and had to make all arrangements at work...

But I hope it will finally be settled and your surgery will go fine...
This is the main concern, right?

Please come back and let us know how will you do.
Best of luck to you and blessings....

Re: Surgery moved to this Wednesday - Lumbar Decompression and SCS Replacement

chetnsue , hey I hope all goes well for you with your surgery !! I live in central new jersey as well and seen a bunch of doctors around here.. It looks like Dr.Rosenblum is performing your surgery (i saw that you wrote "denise" was not there) - I no Dr. Rosenblum well and all his staff , he's a wounderfull doctor..
I had a 3 level laminectomy done by him back in 2004 , and just had another back surgery on 2.20.08 by Dr.Phair out of middletown.. Good luck with every thing , your in good hands.. Just take it E Z at first , rent lots of movies and have good friends and family around.. Any questions feel free to ask okay.

Re: Surgery moved to this Wednesday - Lumbar Decompression and SCS Replacement

Well here's the update. I have surgery tomorrow. I have to be at the Hospital at 11:30am and then surgery is not until 1:30pm. I loathe having the later surgeries. I much rather be first in the bunch, then where I am at. Then again I cannot complain to badly at least I having the surgery tomorrow and not having it postponed.
Dr. Rosenblum is my N.S., and Dr Metzger is my P.M.
I am sure all will go well. I will post again when I get home from the hospital on Thursday or Friday depending on how I feel.
Thanks for all the love and support. I really appreciate it. I will talk to everyone later.
