XLIF procedure

Hi,
I live in the uk and have recently seen XLIF procedure on these boards.
I wondered if any body could tell me what this procedure is?
I have prolapsed disc L45,torn Disc L34,and narrow nerve channels.
In 2006 i had Discectomy and bi-lateral decompression for L45 and everthing was going great for 3 months until L45 prolapsed again and L34 torn.
Since then i have been told in need a fusion but have had to wait for a discograph, epidurals and facett joint injections.(2 years)
I have had all of these (vey limited if any relief) and my surgeon is meeting his fellow surgeons about a new procedure that does not require rods hopefully giving me more flexability. He did not give a name for the procedure and i have to wait months for each apointment so i am trying to get a bit of info before my next apointment.

Regards Martin
