Unhappy Please HELP Back and neck pain after seeing chiropractor

I went to a chiro about a year ago for tmj. My purpose was to find a good cranial chiropractor that could help with the TMJ i was experiencing for the past 7 years. Well after seeing this chiropractor who turned out having me sign a 3 month contract to continue treatment I started having severe back pain. I was told this was part of the treatment and that it would get better. Well it didn't and the muscle pain I was having turned more into spinal pain. After 2 1/2 months or so the chiropractor took x-rays and it did not look good; so much so the chiropractor right then offered to fix my spine no charge. Eventually I just stopped going to the chiropractor.

A month or so after seeing the chiropractor I noticed a big drop of energy and pain in my lumbar region. I suddenly started losing my hair. My skin became very dry. My hands and fingers ached, my knees began to pop constantly, and everything from my back to my arms cracked when moving, it felt like I was aging quickly. It feels like my body suddenly stopped or dropped significantly producing whatever it once was; mentally and physically I'm tired and drained. If anybody can give me any advice on what could be causing this or how I can get better I would appreciate it greatly.

I'm contemplating taking herbal hgh; is this a good idea?

Re: Please HELP Back and neck pain after seeing chiropractor

You'll find that most of us here are not particularly pro-chiropractic. They do have their time and place if you're careful which one you go to, but if you have real back issues, no chiropractor should be touching you unless your REAL doctor has cleared it. A chiropractor is not a doctor, in spite of what he calls himself.

Have you been to your family doctor? If not, that would be the next step. You need to get a diagnosis. Your family doctor can do some basic tests and, if necessary, refer you to one or more specialists.

I wish you the best. I know you must be worried and frustrated!

It sounds like something is really going on with you that needs a professional to look at. I am all about herbal and enzymes but you need to talk to your family doctor first. The longer you wait the worse it might get and taking anything not prescribed might mask symptoms the doctor needs to know about.

We are praying for you!

Re: Please HELP Back and neck pain after seeing chiropractor

It sounds like a couple of things going on. First of all, it sounds like your chiropractor is a bit unethical. I love my chiro, but I went to three before I found him. A good chiro is worth his/her weight in gold, IMO. It should be a benign but beneficial experience. There should be no "contracts". I went to one guy, who was technically very good but wanted to break out services, such as if I wanted my back AND neck adjusted, I would pay extra. This is ridiculous, I am a whole person. And how am I to know if I need my neck adjusted or not? The chiro knows that by feeling around. I never went to him again. On top of that, he couldn't resist talking about his religious views. I don't go to a chiropractor for that. Yes, there are all kinds out there.

Your symptoms sound coincidental to the chiro, and systemic in nature. I agree with others here that you should see your PCP and get a complete check over.

Good luck.

This is funny. First Im a chiro and the one you are seeing is a nut job from what I read. Get away! It's too bad some bozos can make the whole profession look crappy.

Every profession has knuckleheads in it that are only concerned with money.

Second, Emily, I will put my knowledge of the human body up against any "real doctor" short of a neurologist.

To even suggest that a GP MD is close to me in education in the field of biomechanics and musculoskeletal conditions shows that you do not know what you speak of. This is 2008 not 1980 you know. My education lacks in pharmacology, its too bad you feel that someone is only a doctor if they sign their name to a Rx pad.

The reason I became a DC and not an MD is because I could not wright Rx all day and tell patients see if this works. I wanted to be hands on and work with my patients. I am not trying to bash MDs though. Just not the career move for me.

Funny how your "real doctors" are always referring me patients. In fact the doctor I work with is married to an MD

Re: Please HELP Back and neck pain after seeing chiropractor

Well, I'm not here to argue. I'm just speaking from my own experiences. I've been to 9 or 10 different chiros over the years. ONE was fabulous. The rest you can keep. I hope you're like that one! Like I said, chiros do have their time and place.

Blessings,
Emily
