I thought I would start a thread about my 4 week post op. I have not had to take any Norco in about 2 1/2 weeks. Having said that, I am still on my fentanyl patch which I have been on for almost two years. When I saw my surgeon at my 1 week check up, she stated that I would eventually be weaned off my fentanyl and I was happy to hear that.
I forgot to change my patch after 72 hours and finally changed it 2 days after the 72 hrs was up. - would you believe my right leg did not hurt? My leg has always hurt and it was coming from my back. I do believe the surgery has fixed that problem. I do not want to get too gung ho but I am thinking good thoughts for sure.
I'm still very careful about bending, twisting and (eek I forgot the other one). I wear my brace around the house when I am up. I use my reacher all the time. My husband went out and bought me this nifty thing called the "Gopher" - I can't recall if I shared that with all of you. You must get one as they are neat. It's like the reacher but has little suction cups and can grab stuff that is a tad bit heavy. My husband also built these blocks to put our couch up on so our couch is no longer low. It's wonderful. I also have two hi-rise toilet seats for each bathroom that are wonderful and I still use them. Have a nice shower chair that is nifty. My husband has been so supportive and helpful. I am truly blessed in so many ways.
No vacuuming yet - my husband still does that. I do the dishes every once in awhile. We have a nice dishwasher but I still have to do certain dishes in the sink. I rest a lot during the way.
Now for the bad part in all of this. My back surgery was a breeze in my humble opinion - it's the cellulitis and lymphedema I am struggling with in my left leg. My leg is huge. I have been on an antibiotic since last Sunday when I went to the ER. My leg does not want to go down (swelling) . It's hard as a rock and nasty looking. Last time I got cellulitis I was hospitalized for a week. I could sure use some good thoughts. I have cried many nights - just wishing this would clear up. I'm trying to remain positive but this is not what I needed as I recover from my back surgery even though my surgery has gone well and the pain was minimal. I'd love to take some norco right now for my left leg but I don't want to go there if I can help it. So I will remain strong and persevere. This too shall pass.
I will continue to read here and post. I think the people here are amazing and reading here prior to my surgery helped me in more ways than you can imagine. Thank you! Happy New Year to everyone and gentle healing.
Kathy.....Im sorry your having to deal with cellulitis ....I cant imagine another problem on top of the back issue.....What is the normal healing time for cellulitis? I have no clue on what your dealing with....I am however so glad your one of the ones who is healing good on the back issue....I have no clever words for you and that bums me out....just try and be the tough one and ride it out...Im going to search and see what I can learn.
So sorry to hear about your leg problem...is is any better? what a bummer to have that on top of trying to recover a back surg. Im thinking good thoughts for you and hoping the meds are working..thank you for supporting me in other threads I appreciate that so much
Thank you so much for the support. What a great group we have here. I have to say the pain is unbearable. Blue, I have started taking the Norco. I'm so blasted mad at the medical community re: my cellulitis. This is so darn hard right now and my Internist can't see me until the 15th? WHat a joke. My leg is very swollen - you can look it up online.
I did something to my back because it hurts now. I had my legs up on the arm of my couch (at heart level) to help with swelling and I guess I moved the wrong way. It's so darn frustrating.
When I went to ER about my leg initially, I was shocked at the medication the doc gave me. Only 250 MG a capsule. That is nothing when you are dealing with cellulitis.
I will check in tomorrow. Again, thanks so much. Kath

Kathy....I looked it up and I am so sorry you have to deal with this! man o man.....I did read where it says it can clear up in about 10 days....how many days has it been? is it showing any signs of going away? keep it elevated! do what the doc says and it will soon pass.
I just noticed your in Redondo Beach.....that is where I used to go when I went to the beach when I lived in West Covina, Ca.
I didn't have cellulitis, but I did have a lot of swelling in my feet and ankles. I propped my legs and feet up on pillows on my bed during the day. It helped to keep extra pressure off my back as I laid completely flat and had complete support under my knees. I hope it gets better quickly. You'd think your internist would squeeze you in! It's not like you just want basic follow up, you have a real problem!
I hope you're not in too much pain. That swelling really hurts!
