Hi I injured my lower back at the begining of january at work (I am an Early childhood educator) I went to my doctors he did x-rays on my lower back, it came back normal. I was still in pain when I had to bend down or get up from the chair. He suggested that I go to pt for my back and I have been going three times aweek . I thought that it was helping me because there was hardly an pain and I could move around better. Well on Friday as I was getting ready to go to work, I felt this reall sharp pain on my lower back going all the way down to my legs. It was excuriating. I could not move at all. I took my back pills and it still was hurting me in fact when I woke up yesterday morning the pain was so intense that I couldn't even stand up. I went to the walk in clinic the doctor prescribed me some tylenol 3 but i am still in pain. could anyone tell me if this is a hurinated disk or something else. I would really appreciate some feedback.
Re: back Pain
So sorry you are in pain. Many on this back forum feels your pain or has felt it. Can be very painful! In order to know if you have a herniated disc, you would need further testing <other than a reg. xray> Most docs will send you for a MRI....that usually tells if you have a herniated disc. BUT sometimes more testing is even needed after a MRI. So, it would be hard for anyone to tell you if you have a herniated disc or what other than a doc. There is many things that can make a back hurt.....my advice is, make another appt. with your doc and tell the doc you are still hurting...chances are, he will order a MRI. If that gets you no where, find another doc. Good luck to you....
Re: back Pain
What your doctor did was pretty normal. There's a progression of steps that most of us have to go through with these back issues. First, x-rays, then PT. If that doesn't do it, further testing like MRI's and/or CT's and/or bone scans. Then hopefully you'll get an accurate diagnosis and a treatment plan, which may or may not include surgery. If your doctor doesn't hang in there with you and go the next round, time for a different doctor.
Stick around here. We're not doctors, but many of us have had serious back issues and can help you from our own experiences.
I wish you the best,
