Question 3 level spinal fusion

I am scheduled for a 3 level fusion and am wondering how long did the surgery take?

Re: 3 level spinal fusion

It varies with the method the surgeon is using and the number of levels. But you can probably get a rough idea from what each of us posts. I had a 360 fusion, that is, they go in first through the back, then flipped me over and went in again through the back. I had three surgeons working on me. It took about 6 1/2 hours for 8 levels.

Hope this helps,
Emily

Re: 3 level spinal fusion

My surgery was 2.5 hours, and it was only the L5-S1....you can call the hospital and ask how long your doctor booked the operating room for. Normally doctors book however long they feel they'll need to do the operation + 1 hour in case of complications (or at least that's what I've been told.).

Best of luck with your fusion!

Re: 3 level spinal fusion

My 3 level took about 3 hours - pretty quick. I don't think you will remember much - I certainly didn't. The pain meds in the hospital worked very well.
