Hi...I need some help. I have had severe back problems for almost 10 years now. I have had 2 spinal fusions. The first one was L4/L5 w/laminectomy and the second was L2/L3 w/laminectomy. My back is a total mess because of all the chemotherapy and radiation I had 20 years ago. I have DDD, stenosis, bulging discs, sciatica..etc...I have never been pain free. My pm Dr just did a series of epidural steroid injections..unfortunately they did not work. I have been on very high doses of pain meds..and my pm Dr just switched around my meds again...still no relief. I just went back to the back Dr and he looked at my X rays, and I will be having another CAT scan next week, but he said I do need another spinal fusion!! The problem is two-fold. 1) I do not want a third fusion and 2) I have many other health problems, so he is very aprehensive of me having another surgery and "going under".
He has sugested some kind of "protein" procedure. I do not know anything about itg and wonder if anyone knows what he is talking about. He said he would go through my front, through the stomach and possibly could just use an epidural, versus general anestisia (sp). the one big red flag for me is that this protein has a side effect of bringing about different cancers sometimes. Well, I have a history of Lyphoma and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma..so this worries me a bit. So..if anyone knows more about this protein..please let me know~ thanks so much as usual for everyones kind words and help!!
