Hello, this is my first time to post here. I have been experiencing terrible left hip pain that is worse when walking or when I have been sitting and then stand and move. I have seen two orthopaedic MDs, have had hip x-rays and low back and also MRI of hip. Nothing showed up. I was treated with anti-inflammatory med and finally had cortisone injection in hip. They told me I had hip bursitis. Only helped temporarily. I am wondering if the pain can actually be originating in low back, like a nerve or disc. Sometimes when I walk it's almost like I get a catch in my left buttock that stops me from moving. The hip pain is almost unbearable and it seems to be worse with certain movements. Also sometimes radiates to inside of left knee. My pain is also in low back but the hip hurts much worse. If anyone has experienced this I would be grateful for any input.
I would suggest going to a neuro., because it could possibly be a disk problem in your low back. A herniated disk will cause pain in the hip, buttock, and going down the leg. Good luck
I have pain in my low back and out towards my hip and down my leg. Mine is caused by a disc. It basically follows the sciatic nerve route. Mine is much worse sitting than any other position. Walking is the best thing for me. At times I would say that most of my pain is also in my hip, but not all the way out to the side, more of on the buttock.
This is the norm for a lower back disc problem, but not always the case. Getting evaluated by the neuro would be good. I know it is frustrating to have pain with no apparent cause. I hope you can pin it down soon and find a good treatment. Have you tried pain management?
My Mother lived with me for 3 yrs. she has bursitis in her hip. I bought her some of that 'blue stuff' recently, well it's like blue stuff. The kind I bought was called blue gel. Harriet Carter magazine had it. Her pain was very bad too. She said it's helping. And she just started using it. This stuff has emu oil, it's suppose to penatrate to the bursa.
Also you have to move it. Sitting in one position for too long isn't good.
Another thing she does when it's hurting really bad is...
Ice it for 15min....nothing on it for 15min.....then heat for 15min.....then nothing for 15min....then back to the cold...and start over. Brings the inflamation down quicker.
I made her some rice bags for the heat packs. Take a tube sock and fill it with white rice(I made a funnel for filling it out of a paper plate, just fold it into a cone and tape or staple it) when 3/4th full then tie the top of the sock.
I put another sock over that so I could just Change the outer sock for a clean one. You can store them in the freezer for a cool pack too. But it's not cool enough for very long.
For the heat pack just pop it in the micrwave, 60seconds, then check it, move it around to distribute the heat. Then add a little more time if it needs it, about 20sec.
Watch out they can get too hot!!!
And you can scorch the rice,or you!! That really stinks....phew..Good luck. And I hope this has helped you. Diana <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif">
